feeding dc

AIBU to expect person looking after my dc up till 7.15pm to feed them. Had a last minute job and family member very kindly offered to look after dc aged 4 and 7.
Arrived home at 7.15pm to discover children not fed and starving. I was exhausted so ended up ordering takeaway.

What time did they start looking after them? I'm wondering if they thought they'd already been fed?

Awhiteelephantintheroom · 07/03/2011 17:28

How long had they had the children for?

Chil1234 · 07/03/2011 17:29

YANBU but the way some people go on about it if someone dares to feed their beloved DC something inappropriate (a chicken nugget and a fruit shoot, by the cringe!!) I'm not surprised if others back off rather than risk it. :) Was the babysitter a parent themselves?

Imnotaslimjim · 07/03/2011 17:32

YANBU! I would fully expect my DC to have been fed by then. AT 3 and 5, 7-7.30 is bedtime and they would probably fall asleep while eating if it was left that late!

To look at the other side of it though - PIL's don't eat "tea" til 7/8pm so if the babysitter does similar maybe they just didn't think

From after school and yes the person is a parent.

I do see it is probably partly my fault as I didn't indicate what they should be given but the whole thing was rushed.

I wouldn't necessarily expect it, we tend to eat late in this household so 7.15 isn't that late imo.

If I was expecting them to be fed I'd have probably mentioned something to the person who was looking after them so you may be being unreasonable

squeakytoy · 07/03/2011 17:45

Just a lack of communication between the adults I would say. They may have assumed you would be feeding them when you got home and fed yourself. You could have asked them to give the children something to eat.

Are you sure they havent had anything at all though? I know a few children who would forget the snack they had and swear blind they hadnt had a thing...
