She is meant to be here for 6 hours today, but doesn't look like its going to happen. She has been coming for three weeks, and frankly, she isn't very good at the attention to detail. So her not showing would be a good excuse to sack her.

A bit harsh though? She's not aware I think she's poor, because I'm too much of a wimp to say anything (although today I have got written out an exact cleaning specification for her room-by-room to give her a clue). Can I???

If she doesn't turn up without any explanation or contact then you can sack her, of course.

Can you what? Sack her for not turning up you mean?

I suppose it depends on her reason for not showing but to be honest, you'd be better to sack her for not doing her job properly than to use this as an 'excuse'

YANBU. You're under no obligation to keep the same cleaner, particularly if she doesn't show up. Find someone else.

She comes to us through an agency - the owner of which hasn't contacted me either..... worraliberty, I know I should

Call the agency and ask for someone else next time. Tell them you weren't happy with the cleaning and with not turning up

I wish I had a cleaner to help me, but given the state of my house I wouldn't be surprised if she never came back lol
