I WANT A DRESS WITH SLEEVES ARRRGGGHHH!

Do you think I can find a nice, fashionable, not frumpy frock for a night out that has sleeves? Not those stupid little cap sleeves that make my, erm, voluptuous arms look like ham hocks in a butchers window. Proper sleeves.

AIBU to ask you to help me find one. There may be a prize involved for the best one. I am desperate. I want to look naice for my friends but the fashion wrld wants me to look like either Liz McDonald off Corrie or my mum going to the Toby Inn for a ritzy night out with the crazy girls from work.

Help :(

bargain!

FabbyChic · 06/03/2011 15:56

You could try Next it isn't just for oldies, in my early thirties I always wore their stuff for evenings out/clubbing.

The stuff you actually like I feel is old fashioned but I guess that's my age.

FauxFox · 06/03/2011 15:57

floral
oooh lovely!
tribal
floral
animal print

cheekeymonkey · 06/03/2011 16:13

Gosh musicmadness, that is gorgeous!

Tsil · 06/03/2011 16:14

www.net-a-porter.com/product/110152 - this is pretty although I think Jordan wore it the other day :-)

www.net-a-porter.com/product/110152 - I have this it's great with wedges or sandals

Net-a-porter have some really nice dresses with sleeves but I am a bit obsessed with the site and it depends on your budget.

keepingupwiththejoneses · 06/03/2011 16:29

How about this

keepingupwiththejoneses · 06/03/2011 16:40

chiffon sleeved
slinky batwing
very dress
monsoon millier
monsoon fusion

missmehalia · 06/03/2011 16:50

Have you looked at Great Plains? Lots of tea dress styles on there, but not sure if you want something more night time. I feel your pain. I am with you on the arms thing.. have you got great legs? (If so, shorter with nice shoes - Fly London's are gorgeous.) Show off the bits of you that you like!

missmehalia · 06/03/2011 16:54

Do be careful of florals, some of them have that Nan's Curtains look, especially if some of the pattern is white. I've had some disasters, and have looked back on the photos with horror.

missmehalia · 06/03/2011 16:55

keepingup, that 'very' dress is just gorgeous. Must stop looking at these threads, am supposed to be economising.

WentworthMillerMad · 06/03/2011 17:01

Am sooooo with you on the sleeves! I tried on a stunner in ted baker this week. Made me feel fab and curvy- until I did a side check and looked like an Aussie rules footy player in drag! WTF with the no sleeves!
Musicmadness that dress is a beauty.
I actually found a lovely dress in Hobbs, never normally go there. Vertical stripe wrap dress. Bought new bra and trinny suzanna sucker in. Looks good.
What a lovely thread.
Jigsaw always kinder on the arms, the dreaded Boden again, autograph.
X x

Cristiane · 06/03/2011 17:04

Please don't wear chiffon-y sleeves it looks pretty awful and cheap i my opinion

Go for a dress that's not trying to hide things but is idependently, in irs own right, sexy.... Like the vivienne west wood one i link to above x

onceamai · 06/03/2011 17:13

Totally agree, can get away without sleeves but with dd cups i cannot get away with anything that doesn't need a proper bra underneath. I don't understand why they even make dresses/tops in 14+ that don't cover a bra strap. I know I could do with losing a stone but I'm not fat, I'm not Hmm

JsOtherHalf · 06/03/2011 17:23

Bravissimo now do some clothes (for cup size D+, including dresses.

Some are on sale atm:

Ilikegreenshoes · 06/03/2011 17:23

Feel your pain - have you tried Bravissimo? They often have some very nice styles which are designed specifically for boobier ladies (like me!). Can be a bit pricey, but there tends to be loads of older styles available on ebay for much cheaper.

Ilikegreenshoes · 06/03/2011 17:25

Hahaha, great minds think alike JsOtherHalf! :)

LessNarkyPuffin · 06/03/2011 18:05

This is nice, possibly a bit low cut?
£310 but it's a floral you might like.
£300 but I want it.
£220 but another one that'll keep you going for years.
Elbow length sleeves and only £55

onceamai · 09/03/2011 08:19

I love every single one, but I wouldn't wear an above the knee dress (and that counts out almost the entire Boden catalogue).

PorcelinaOfTheVastOceans · 09/03/2011 08:40

christ, i never realised how hard it was to find a below-the-knee dress with sleeves!

kenobi · 09/03/2011 08:44

Bravissimo - and they have a sale on!

this one's lovely

kenobi · 09/03/2011 08:47

Doh - I see someone else has got there already - sorry Blush

noddyholder · 09/03/2011 08:56

this could look nice with navy footless tights and wedges

noddyholder · 09/03/2011 09:00

lovely with black opaques and high round toed platforms?
