to be frightened of my neighbour

We've been living peacefully in the same close for over 10 years.

The adult son of a neighbour has an obvious mental illness. Up until a few months ago there was no issue...we would often chat and he seemed a nice enough chap. Lately however he has become sinister and threatening and I am becoming nervous about what might happen next.

Today he came onto our property, right up to the front door and threatened my DP. Someone has reported him to the RSPCA (his dogs aren't in very good condition I must admit) and he is convinced it was us. It wasn't. He said that when he finds out who it is he's going to kill them.

I considered going to speak to his parents, but I don't want to be met with more aggression.

AIBU? Should I just forget about this? Should I speak to the parents??

I have some experience of mental illness and you MUST report this. Logging it with the olice coulld actually protect you as they will know of the situation o there ever is an incident and it could speed up response time.

You must not be afraid.....get a security camera and you could also speak to the local mental health team for advice. Your GP can advise on this.

My neighbour had paranoid schitzophrenia and he fixated on me when I was 17. He had a breakdown one ay when I did not say hello to him....it IS scary....my cousin also had paranoia and manic deppression....there is support and advice out there.

You must report/log this with the police.
Nobody should be threatened in their own home.

Another take on his behaviour but could it be drug related?

If so then he may well be already known to the police so you would be doing them a favour by reporting his threats etc.

He has made threats to kill. This is what the police are here for. You pay tax for this service - use it! PLEASE report him.

I agree you need to report it to the police, he said he would kill the person when he found out who it was. That is not something to take lightly, he may not mean it but he may do something which seriously harms someone. The police should be aware so they can deal with it, they are the ones who are trained to decide if it is very serious or not.
