Deep breath. MIL has arrived from overseas...she got here on Friday only...so has spent the day here with me and 2 DDs.

She is staying in a hotel a mile away and all day DH has been working on putting in a new fence in the garden so it's been me and MIL.

Now MIL is ok...she's not the worst BUT she won't take a hint.

Tommorrow I have 20 people coming for DDs 3rd day...mostly relatives...I Have a tone of wrk to do and DH has tramped mud all through.

I can't clean up because DH and MIL ae watching tv and he hasn't got MIL into gear...she'll sit there al frigging night periodically dozing and waking up in time to laugh at shite on TV

I SPOKE to DH yesterday as I knew this would happen....I said "Please encourge MIL homeafter the kids go to bed....or I wont be able to clean and prep for theparty.

So what does he do??? Sit there drinking coffee...it's 9.00 and I have to bake, clean and tidy.

AIBU?

I would still be in a huff...my Mum would not stay for so long if I had things to do. Especially if she could not help!

Its my home ffs. I wouldnt sit on MILS sofa all night nodding off while she prepped for a party!

But what happened in the end? did they get off the sofa or not? ;)

squeakytoy · 06/03/2011 23:04

Poor bloody woman, she probably didnt want to sit on her own in a hotel room when she could be sat with her son!

worraliberty · 06/03/2011 23:15

FFS she lives overseas and wants to spend time with her son. What's your problem?

It's not her fault if you feel unable to get on with things around her and if your husband can't clean up his own mess Confused

SeeJaneKick · 06/03/2011 23:15

Oh she could have sat with him in her hotel! it's notn a hotel though...it's a flat! It's nicer than my house.

He offered to take her home and I had stocked the fridge....it' privately rented and beautiful.

DH offered to drive her and suggested he stay wit her a while...but Noooooo! She wanted to bloody nod off on my sofa which I think is bloody rude.

She's family not some random guest.

I think you're out of order the way you're treating her.

squeakytoy · 06/03/2011 23:17

Riiiiiight... but you did say hotel. :)

SeeJaneKick · 06/03/2011 23:18

I know..it was quicker than saying "Well furnished, private lxury apartment by the river"

True, but it does put a different slant on things. Its not like you would be packing her off to a lonely impersonal hotel room with 4 walls and a mini bar for company.

After a long journey, yep, a nice apartment with a well stocked fridge etc, does sound more inviting..

and as you say, DH could have taken her there and caught up on news while you plumped yer cushions Wink
