Hi,

I did post this under childrens health but got impatient. Apologies before you all flame me as it's not really an AIBU.

DD has had raised temp for last 24hrs, approx 38.5 although feels much hotter, also very red in face and off her food. She is quite irritable too.

I noticed today she had a tiny bit of a molar broken through so thought it was almost definitely her teeth, as I had suspected.

However, this afternoon she has developed quite stinky breath too and now I am worried it is something more serious. Typical that it is a Friday evening!

Have any of your dc suffered with bad breath whilst teething or do I need to rush off to the Walk In centre tomorrow?

Thoughts please.

Everytime my DS has a tooth coming through he gets temps around the 39 - 39.8C and he also had stinky breath used to put that down to the amount of garlic I chuck in food but then realised it was more when teething. I think it is quite common. When he first was like I was vey worried..now 10 teeth down the line I am 'oh another tooth'. I would give paracetomol and baby nurofen and if the temp comes down and your baby perks up I would see how she goes.

None of mine have suffered bad breath from teething but they all used to have bad breath if they were coming down with a cold or another illness. Infact it wasn't just their breath that would smell, their bodies would emit the same weird odour.

How old is she?

BlueCollie · 04/03/2011 19:38

I meant she how she is tomorrow.

15 months. She has been ok whilst dosed up but gets really hot when it wears off.

Read on net it can be a sign of tonsillitis which is what bothered me.

Sounds like an infection to me. Perhaps a sore throat? There's no treatment for viruses apart from some regular paracetamol/ibuprofen and plenty of fluids.

If it doesn't start to improve after the weekend then you could see the gp then, but if you're feeling concerned then you could always arrange to visit the walk in centre. Listen to your instincts.

They can develop bad breath if they're not eating. Make sure she has plenty of other fluids to avoid dehydration.

Hope she feels better soon Smile

Oh that's a point. I do remember reading somewhere it can be a sign of sinus infection, but really it could be anything. If you're still worried ring NHS direct but if her temp is coming down and she's just a bit crabby, I wouldn't worry too much.

Think I'd better go to the walk in tomorrow then. Joy!

Thanks so much to all of you who took the time to reply.

My first thought was an infection too. If she gets any worse call your emergency doc, hope she is fine though. Good luck tomorrow

My DD used to get bad breath before she was ill, I just can't remember which illness, but it was never anything serious or I would have remembered. I think that it might have been one of those mystery weirdy virus that children seem to get. I remember DH would notice it and say she's going to be ill again, and then the next day she would be.

justwaitaminute · 04/03/2011 22:00

My daughter used to get the most horrible breath when she was teething and a temperature,
