Can I have some quick opinions on whether IWBU to ask school this?

We've got a wedding on Saturday which requires us to travel tomorrow after school from one side of the m25 to the other and up the M11.

DS is still 4 and in Reception.

We're wondering if it'd be ok to ask to pick him up at lunchtime to leave before the worst of the traffic.

It's not essential but I've been ill in bed with some viral thing all week, feeling really washed out, and we also have DT's age 14 months to take on the journey too.

Is it just one of those "he's at school now, suck it up" things, or would it be reasonable to ask if we could take him out at lunchtime?

Genuinely would like opinions...

I wouldn't ask them, I'd be telling them Grin

Lucifera · 03/03/2011 14:08

I think it would be enirely reasonable and I'd be v surprised if the school minded.

squeakytoy · 03/03/2011 14:08

If they say no then you can set off as you pick him up. Traffic wont be bad on the M25 at 3.30pm.

Boozilla · 03/03/2011 14:08

Yeah, I definitely would. I'm sure the school would be absolutely fine about it.

zingzillachinchilla · 03/03/2011 14:08

I'd do it

ChaosTrulyReigns · 03/03/2011 14:09

I have taken mine out of school after afternoon registration once to go on holidays.

The school were very content with this arrangement. Os it feasible for you?

HuwEdwards · 03/03/2011 14:09

Our school would have no problem with this.

bumpybecky · 03/03/2011 14:11

he's not of compulsory school age yet, even if the school mind (and I'm sure they won't) there is no legal requirement for him to be there :)

Weegle · 03/03/2011 14:11

brilliant thanks all - just didn't want to look like an idiot asking if it would be really frowned upon.

YANBU and I think they'd be unreasonable not to let you.

its a friday afternoon, he's 4. I would be very surprised if they kicked up fuss.

zipzap · 03/03/2011 14:30

If they object, organise a doctor's appointment for him on friday afternoon that you need to pick him up for after lunch and there's no point going back after school for.... Grin

Ihavewelliesbuttheyrenotgreen · 03/03/2011 14:31

I think it would be fine to ask. He's only 4, its Friday afternoon (surely they don't do much at this time). And presumbly you havn't made similar requests so they should be fine with it.

NikkiH · 03/03/2011 14:32

Wouldn't be a problem at our school.

BuzzLiteBeer · 03/03/2011 14:33

I wouldn't ask either, I would tell. Tough balls if they didn't like it.

lazylula · 03/03/2011 14:39

Technically, if you are in England anyway, he doesn't have to be in full time education until after the term that he turns 5, so you can choose to take him home if you wish. I wouldn't think much would be said for 1 Friday afternoon anyway tbh.

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 03/03/2011 14:49

I did this once, when the dses were in primary school - ds1 was definitely in the Juniors, and ds2 might have been too. The school had no problem with it, and the boys' educations don't seem to have suffered, so no, YANBU to ask this.

foreverondiet · 03/03/2011 16:37

I think it would be totally reasonable.

Desperateforthinnerthighs · 03/03/2011 16:47

Completely reasonable...go for it

Gaston · 03/03/2011 17:20

Tell school you need to do this, they should be fine with it.

Queenofchaos · 03/03/2011 17:21

Do it!

Weegle · 03/03/2011 17:22

all sorted, leaving at lunchtime tomorrow

thanks all
