ds has chicken pox.

dd is 13 weeks and ebf.

I am immune.

what's the odds that dd will get it too?

your immunity might be waning a bit. DS2 was exposed (from his brother) as a bfed 8 month old. We were seeing a paediatrician at the time who said that he might still have some passive immunity. He didn't get it, but did catch it from nursery 2 years later.

I've never had chickenpox btw - but must have been exposed and developed immunity without developing symptoms.

My ebf 5 month old caught it from his brother too. And given that he was under a year old it was highly likely he would get it again as the permanent immune memory isn't triggered at that age. And in the last month at 2.11 he's finally caught it again, so I'm hoping that will be it now.

yabu - my friend's DC got chicken pox while she was breastfeeding.

and my friend was immune too.

Hello. It's potluck really, my DS caught chicken pox from my eldest son (who had just got over them) when DD was born. She was ebf and didn't catch them.

Only anecdotal reassurance but ds1 did not catch them when he was exposed by his cousin at 5 months. Ds2 was repeatedly exposed by friends and neighbors as an infant but never contracted them.

Dd1 caught them at 14 months from dh's colleague following a 10 seconds encounter with him at our front door!?! She was still bf but obviously eating solids as well by then.

Here is an article from Kellymom. It is not any more conclusive or reassuring... www.kellymom.com/newman/how_breastmilk_protects_newborns.html

Ds1 had them when dd was born. Ds2 developed the spots a week later. DD (BF) had them at 3 weeks old . She only had a mild case (3 spots!) and couldn't scratch them.
I was told she could get them again though,as she would have fought them on my immunity. She never did but had shingles at 16.
