overweight doctors?

AIBU to think the junior dr on BBC3's fly on the wall programme would be more effective, especially on his placement as an emergency dr if he could move around at speed without huffing and puffing and dripping sweat everywhere? And no I don't know if he has a condition which causes him to be overweight but as a general point, should they perhaps be "modelling" good health a little more?

GotArt it must be nice to be so perfect all the time, is the air thin at all up there on your pedestal Hmm

Xenia · 02/03/2011 22:21

A lot of people find it very difficult. I do think front line NHS workers should try more than many other professions to eat well for their own sake as well as the example to others just as plenty of doctors in their droves gave up smoking as soon as the health issue became knowsn in the last 50s and early 60s. Not all managed it but a lot did.

Fucking fat police - you wouldn't say that of your car mechanic.

Fat, not stupid.

"Fucking fat police - you wouldn't say that of your car mechanic."

You would if he was too fat to fit under or in the car to repair it Grin

Sometimes its not about food. I know what to eat and eat healthy (today i have had sultana bran, an egg and salad sandwich and some paella and an apple and some grapes in the day.). Thing is, I have now worked, sitting on my arse since 7 pm, doing lectures for tomorrow.

musksticks · 02/03/2011 22:30

Oh and I didnt get my lunch until 3.30 pm

GotArt · 02/03/2011 22:39

No, the air isn't thinner up here, but I am for taking responsibility for me. I didn't say I was perfect. I've fluffed off from going to the gym for weeks now for no other reason than I can't arsed to, and I'm feeling the repercussions of that, so got back on wagon yesterday and have vowed that I will stay focused. I've signed up for a half marathon in October to help with that focus. This pregnancy also has me wanting nothing but chocolate. I struggle daily with the psychology of food.

moondog · 02/03/2011 22:45

Ah the modern way eh?
Everytihng is permissable apart from daring to 'judge'.

It's absolutely repellant to begin justifying self inflicted obesity sand ill health in health workers.

What next?
Teachers who saunter in to lessons 20 minutes late because y'know it's wrong to 'judge' poor timekeeping.
Solicitors who forget a law or two along the wy because God forbid that they should consider trying to do the job properly.

Off yourr arse.
Stop shovelling quite so much food into your trap.

Job done.

Always a joy moondog.

I don't think teachers and spelling is a fair comparison.

Teachers misspelling words on coursework would be more comparable to doctors who dont know the correct information and/or those who knowingly pass on incorrect information.

Either way, as long as a doctor can do the job, I'm happy.

As for the running, same guy played rugby, so perhaps was sob from distance as opposed to overweight.

HeathcliffMoorland · 02/03/2011 23:34

don't, I mean.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 03/03/2011 00:14

I didn't see the programme and don't much care what size HCPs are; but I was/remain very leery of the dietician, heading up an eating disorders unit, who was plainly significantly overweight, and who told my anorexic friend that she just needed to eat more.

Yay.

Way to go.

musksticks · 03/03/2011 07:20

lol she wasnt wrong though

Xenia · 03/03/2011 07:48

It's not easy but it certainly doesn't look that great if your health professional is unhealthily obese.

trixie123 · 03/03/2011 09:24

Heathcliff - but as part of his job he had to move quickly to help people and was clearly physically struggling with this. If he was a GP behind a desk then maybe there is less of an issue. If physicality is a part of a job you need to be able to do it. We had a plumber once who was so huge he couldn't manage to do the job because our bathroom is (as most are) pretty small with not a lot of elbow room. As a teacher, there is a requirement that I can spell correctly so I make sure I do.
