to report my butcher for still calling his pasties Cornish Pasties

Now that they are a protected species and can only be called Cornish pasties if they are made in Cornwall everyone else who makes then will have to think of a new name for the aformentioned comestibles
I asked my local butcher what he would call them and he got quite cross and said it was a load of bollocks and where will it stop can they only be called Yorkshire pudding if they are made in Yorkshire
Any way the outcome of our heated and sometimes loud discussion was that he was still going to call them Cornish pasties

Should I report him to the pastie police?

OP posts:

Darnsarfupnorf · 01/03/2011 14:22

simonedeboudoir · 01/03/2011 14:26

Thinking about it will have to report waitrose too for their "Danish" pastries

BuntyPenfold · 01/03/2011 14:26

Turkish Delight?
Swiss roll?

Chelsea buns? I make those here in Devon, so sue me :)

thisisyesterday · 01/03/2011 14:26

does he actually make them from scratch?

cos they can still be called cornish pasties if they are prepared in cornwall and then baked and sold elsewhere...

it's no stupider than champagne and sherry and crap like that though is it.
i think it's silly though

Mamaz0n · 01/03/2011 14:28

Come to think of it i have not once found a pair of pant sin a snickers bar.

FabbyChic · 01/03/2011 14:30

I heard that Heinz were forced to introduce 'salad cream' when County Mayo potected their unique sort of egg and oil condiment.

And Opal Fruits had to change name when it was proven that their was no opal in the mixture. Brian Cox is alledgedly advising on the new name Hmm

It's political correctness gorn mad.

Blu · 01/03/2011 14:40

Dog - I agree.
It's people like him who make me want to go vegetarian.

OP: report him to the Pastie Police - or the regulatory body, which is called OfPasty. Unless his pasties were actually off, in which case eport hi to Environmentl Health.

iskra, I shouldn't image that the poor cat's there now - I was a child myself when I last saw it and I don't recall coming across it 10 or 12 years ago when I was last there.

The bloody thing gave me nightmares! Shock

catinthehat2 · 01/03/2011 15:06

Are you making that up?

Let's all make up things, I vote for Luton Pie. Hmm

pastapestoforgotherpassword · 01/03/2011 16:19

I have the answer!! They should be called 'Cornish STYLE pasties' .....see what I did there .....I thank you

LibraPoppyGirl · 01/03/2011 16:22

Oh pastapestoforgotherpassword brilliant idea Grin
[What about if he buys one of his ingredients from Cornwall, could he then claim them to be Cornish Pasties.

After all, Champagne can only be called Champagne if the grapes from the region in France called 'Champagne' are used.

Similar thing could claimed here perhaps Wink

pastapestoforgotherpassword · 01/03/2011 16:32

Slightly alarmingly what about penguin bars

Mamaz0n · 01/03/2011 16:34

pastapestoforgotherpassword · 01/03/2011 16:39

Oh appologies tall one!
