To wonder why these girls don't dress appropriately?

It's not the worst thing but where I live, little girls of 7 plus seem to carry the same style of bag which women in their 30s do.

It looks odd! They're big, serious looking bags....almost like a weekend bag...dull colours and one strap so they're carrying them like a suitcase full of books. They use them as school bags....they're not even bright or fun like a teen might have...they look like their Mothers bags.

Why?
Is it just round here? They all do it.

I´m so old that my school bag was a leather satcchel-twas all that was allowed.

My children both have Eastpack rucksacks that they have on their backs properly.

Tis the norm here.

FluffyMuff · 01/03/2011 15:41

Eleanor - did you go to school with me?

Kids have no idea about fashion these days - you wouldn't catch me trying to imitate grown women when I was little.

Not once did I put on bright blue eyeshadow, fingerless gloves and a pair of yellow heels with green socks.

Not once did I try to look like Madonna....oh hang on...yeah I did.

FluffyMuff · 01/03/2011 15:43

ah crap, I'm posting before finishing (theme of the day for me!)

PB bag?? Paul's Boutique or summink? (non fashionista in your midst)

DD (7) is in awe of a girl in Y3 who has a PB pag AND a PB coat.

DD has her head screwed on though: "....and it cost £60 mummy! Her mum actually bought that for her but it wasn't her birthday or anything, it's ridiculous if you ask me"

I was ready to interject with wise-old-lady words, but
she got there before me Grin

So OP - no it's not just your neck of the woods, it's here too.

FluffyMuff · 01/03/2011 15:44

PB BAG not PB pag

as you were

straightbat · 01/03/2011 22:31

When I was 8 I had a briefcase.

I am the same age as EleanorJosie. Those bandage socks were beyond ridiculous.

SeeJaneKick · 01/03/2011 23:11

I had cerise pink bandage socks and a skirt so tight that I couldn't walk up the stairs...I used to sort of clamp my knees together and hop!

Manticlimatic

Now that's a funky bag!

OP - you were on my mind this morning as I dropped DD at school. Every Y6 girl had a "PB" bag, some Y5's and a few Y4/Y3's.

I've just gone to Google and found a few examples of the bags I witnessed. I am gobsmacked that parents are paying so much for their 'precious' children to take to school. I wouldn't mind if we were living in an affluent area, we are living in a deprived area FFS - surely there are better things to be spending £65 on than a school bag!!!?????

My dd is in year 6. She refused a rucksack. She has the most dreadful chavtastic bag from Primarni.
I got change from a tenner.

AKMD · 02/03/2011 10:28

I was at high school when the Nike string bags came in. My mum wouldn't let me have one because it was 'bad for my back' so I got the constant mick taken out of my sensible back pack. My brother got a Nike string bag Hmm

Fluffy those bags are hideous! £65?! I have a DS but if any future DD wanted a bag like that I would follow Gand all the way to Primark...

Knowing my luck DS will want an Hermes.

TrillianAstra · 02/03/2011 13:52

Those PB bags you've linked there Fluffy are all horrid.

FluffyMuff · 02/03/2011 14:18

They are truly horrid aren't they!

I just can not believe that every girl had one! Unless I am missing something and there is a stall on the market selling fake's!
