Just seen an ad for vanish claiming to kill bacteria on clothes as washing alone may not be enough! Last I heard no-one died from your average dirty pair of jeans? I do get very tired of hearing how the bacteria on a childs high chair is more than on the floor, and the naff dettol adverts showing the germs etc,
I just feel like shouting ITS ONLY BACTERIA FFS, GET A GRIP PEOPLE! THE WORLD IS FULL OF THE STUFF, YOU CANT KILL IT ALL!

Am I unreasonable to think that this craze for absolute cleanliness is downright unhealthy for your average person?
I'm not advocating living in filth by the way, just objecting to adverts that make me feel like a dirty slattern because I dont dettol my surfaces and floor daily Blush and use vanish in every single wash!

Boo- farms are my only super-strict hand washing place too

YANBU. I think it was Sir Terry Wogan who expressed it best.

Dettol adverts claim to kill 99.9% of germs.
Domestos adverts claim that one bacteria can become a million overnight.

So if the Dettol only leaves behind ONE bacterium, it'll be a million by the morning anyway - so what's the bloody point?

The grubbiest kids in school are the ones who are never ill! Makes you think........

My DN was fanatical when his two were small surfaces cleaned with anti-bacterial spray before bottles made up everything sterilized and the kids were always ill.

When my DC were young I only every used to use hot water and a drop of washing up liquid to clean things I must admit in those days there wasn't the products that are now on the market. My DC were rarely ill in fact DS who has just turned 35 has had would you believe his first dose of D & V. I know that is very hard to believe but it is true has a very strong constituent.

I carry a pack of wipes in my handbag when I go out especially if I have the GD's with me wipe their hands before eating and after using the toilet.
