Can't be dealing with their - 'we're so cheap yet will charge you for everything including oxygen and standing room'

bastards.

so i booked with BA.

breathing · 27/02/2011 10:23

Ok if they fly where you need to go.

Hulababy · 27/02/2011 10:33

Hope BA dpon't go on strike Wink

Just joking. Book with whoever you want.

TBH I have flowen with Easyjet a few times, and Ryan Air, and they are what they are. Treat them like you would a train or a bus and they are fine.

I have just booked, this morning infact, flights with RyanAir to Majorca. Three return flights within the eatse rholidays for £235 in total. may add a case on later for an extra £30 but may just do hand luggage.

Easyjet was £426
BA is over £1000 and doesn't go direct so would have to change in London.

KaraStarbuckThrace · 27/02/2011 10:35

YABU - you get what you pay for. I have flown with Easyjet a quite few times and have never had a problem.

BMI Baby on the other hand really are shit, we had major hassle with them last time we flew with them and they also stranded my mother at Gatwick Angry

JojoLapin · 27/02/2011 10:37

IMO BA short haul isn't much better. They charge you upfront but you end up paying about the same as / slightly more than EasyJet with all the extras. For a 1 or 2 hr flight I could not care less about their shitty service.

MuglyFunter · 27/02/2011 10:40

but once all their extras were added on it came to only just less than BA anyway.

I also said to DH as i clicked the buy button I sincerely hope they don't strike Grin

OP posts:
Hulababy · 27/02/2011 10:42

Well, even with any extras there was no way someone like BA could compete with £235 for three return flights to Majorca and back! Only extras we had to pay was for admin charge to use the creditcard but most charge that, The quoted price on the first page already included check in fees, etc. We may add baggae later at £30 per bag, but wewill see.

squeakytoy · 27/02/2011 10:43

I have flown with Easyjet loads of times and never had a major problem. Even when all flights had to be cancelled due to bad weather it was easy to rebook on their website.

Ryanair on the other hand, I would never use again. Used twice and had horrendous experience both times. Never again. Would rather walk! :)

chicaguapa · 27/02/2011 10:50

I fly easyJet a lot and have no problem with them. Whereas I would, and have, paid more to avoid Ryanair as I also would rather walk. I don't mind paying for extras, but I object to their ethics.

Hulababy · 27/02/2011 10:56

If I fly with RyanAir I treat it the same as I would use a bus or train. For us this time it is saving us over £200 for the holiday, that extra means for extra stuff elsewhere on the holiday.

AlistairSim · 27/02/2011 10:57

I would rather have feathers glued to my arms and be thrown off a high building than use Ryanair again.

I have never had a problem with Easyjet though.

Hassled · 27/02/2011 10:59

Agree that Easyjet are pretty much what they say on the tin - cheap, efficient and very no-frills. But they do their job.

Ryanair, on the other hand, are a shower of shites. They are what they say on the tin if the tin had spent some time in a sewer and then been spat on by Satan. I fucking hate Ryanair.

squeakytoy · 27/02/2011 11:06

My first experience with Ryanair.

Flight was cheap, I will grant it that. This was 9 years ago when it wasnt as easy to check out reviews etc on the web, so you more or less had to believe whatever the airline said on their website.

Bologna airport is not five minutes from the railway station, even if you were in a formula 1 car. Rimini is not a 20 minute train journey from Bologna. A vending machine with water and some plastic chairs are not "excellent airport facilities". (The airport was a tin shed in the middle of field with a short landing strip). The plane should have had "L" plates on it, as it took off almost vertically, and narrowly missed a mountain. A team of rugby players on the plane were terrified along with most other passengers..

Hulababy · 27/02/2011 11:10

Ah, you see - we have used Ryan Air two or three times before and it has been fine each time. Plane has landed where we have expected and they have always been on time, landing great, etc.

Anyway, fingers crossed - I shall report bac after Easter.

thenightsky · 27/02/2011 11:13

Used Easyjet loads of times with no problems. Their speedy boarding is a load of shite though.

BMI Baby - no problems, nice smiley staff.

Jet 2 - Fab, best of the bunch.

Ryanair I would never use, ever. They seem to actively hate their customers.

nancydrewfoundaclue · 27/02/2011 11:20

Easyjet have been OK on the occassions I have flown with them, but never done it with DC.

Ryanair I'd rather chew my arms off.

I was caught overseas during the ash cloud and listening to others who were going through the same thing with other airlines I was so grateful to have flown BA. They dealt with rebooking very qucikly and reimbursed all our costs within 3 weeks (over £2k)

Ariesgirl · 27/02/2011 11:31

Confused I have just booked return tickets to Grenoble including luggage for less than £100 with Easyjet. I'm hoping they'll be ok.

I agree with the Ryanair-haters - I had a horrendous experience with the two years ago and wouldn't go with them even if it meant walking. They openly despise their passengers and treat them like total shit. People say "you get what you pay for" etc, but you really should not have to pay extra for manners and a bit of compassion.

porcamiseria · 27/02/2011 13:17

just flew alitalia insteAD OF EASY,even though it was 3 flights to get us here rather than 2 with easyjet, it was better

seat numbers!!! with 2 small kids its so much better to not have bitch fight to get on plane

and glasses of water and snacks!!!

thefurryone · 27/02/2011 13:24

I fly with easyjet quite often and actually find them one of the better low cost airlines. Particularly in comparison with Ryanair, their website is much clearer on how much the flight is going to cost you and they don't have a weight limit on cabin baggage which makes life so much easier, as I would rarely check in a bag.

But well done for voting with your wallet that is after all your perogative.

StickyProblem · 27/02/2011 13:40

I am quite fond of Easyjet, and their cabin crew are usually cheerful and smiley, which is nice.
I avoid Ryanair as I don't think they treat their staff well.
But, tbh, I usually fly from Gatwick so Easyjet is usually the only/best option. I've never had the option to fly Easyjet or BA within a few hundred pounds difference, there's usually only one realistic option.
Numbered seating is like high luxury to me now!!

TimeToStartACHEEKYDiet · 27/02/2011 15:08

Iv only ever flown with either First choice or Excel. and were both fab. I would refuse to ever use ryanair, i wouldnt want to pay to use the loo.

DuplicitousBitch · 27/02/2011 15:11

i LOVE easyjet.

Hulababy · 27/02/2011 15:14

RyanAir don't charge for toilets :) It as proposed but never actually went ahead.

kuckingfunt · 27/02/2011 15:16

I have flown with Easy Jet - never had any real problems to be honest. If you just accept what it is, cheap and cheerful you will be fine.

BA shorthaul on the other hand - terrible. They have lost my luggage twice, they also cancelled a domestic flight which meant I missed a long haul flight. I really don't rate them at all.

Renniehorta · 27/02/2011 15:20

For me which airport I use is as important as anything else. As I often travel alone it makes a taxi or carparking very expensive as I can't share the cost.

However Stansted Airport is readily accessible by train from where I live. I don't even have to change. The only other possible one is Birmingham, but that means changing.

So its Easyjet or Ryanair for me. I do prefer Easyjet of the two, but its only ever a short flight.

LarkinSky · 27/02/2011 15:31

I've flown regularly (once every two months) with Easyjet for a few years now, and for the past three years with a baby/toddler - I just wanted to say that I've always found them very child friendly and the best of the budget airlines - and sometimes the cabin crew are more helpful than those on more expensive airlines, including US ones like Continental and Delta.

I've never been on a longer flight than 2 hours with them though, and usually shorter ones - maybe the shortfall happens on longer distances? Otherwise I think they are competitive, and helpful when traveling with children.

Jeez, I must feel strongly about them as I sound like I work in their PR office! (I don't, but I travel a lot on my own with kids, and any business who makes it a little easier rides high in my estimation :o )
