I dont think I am but partners friend thinks I am. She text me and asked if I could take her dd to a party tomorrow, her dd is 7, I have said I will but only if she has a car seat or booster seat. So at moment am both trying to use one but have said without one will not take her dd.

She could pick one up from halfords for £5. my friend just bought one for our DD, £5, free delivery online. You cannot get much cheaper than that.

Of course this does not help now, but if cars are used even occasionally, it makes sense to buy one surely?

Seeker the problem was it was at someone elses house and I couldnt get hold of them.

It was sorted in the end and she was able to get a seat which meant I could take her.

I ended up buying another booster seat one day as I took my neighbours child out for the day and their car seat was in their car which was in the garage being repaired.
In Halfords they are only £15.

OP, YANBU. I would only take the child if it was OK legally (i.e. if child was tall enough, in this case). Glad you have found a solution so she doesn't have to miss the party! :)

YANBU. If anything happens you are responsible as the child is in your car and under your care for the time they are with you.

YADNBU

how will you as a driver feel if you allow it, and have an accident, and child suffers from serious internal injuries / paralysis.

These are your feelings that you will have to live with forever, and if you choose not to take that risk (with someone elses child) than thats up to you.

As a nanny i would NEVER take a child without a seat... I had a few mums (ie charges friends mums) who didnt mind if i took them home for tea, without a seat.
My answer was always "while you may not mind, i could not live with myself if i caused your child serious life changing injuries, because they wernt on a child seat"
A seat was always arranged in responce to that Grin

(Just to add i always kept a spare seat in my carboot, and i owned child 4 seats for different stages, so most of the time there wernt issues, but there had been times when i had leant out my spare(s), not knowing i might need it that very day!)
