I'm sure this is a much discussed topic but it really pisses me off!
Charity mugger just knocked on my door and "chatted" with me for bloody ages about a charity. I had just got dd to sleep made a cup of tea and settled down with a piece if cake and mn....dd woke up and my tea is less than boiling hot!
Now I'm left with an awake baby, not hot tea and feeling a bit guilty even though I already donate to 2 charities every month, (off my own back) and annoyed!!!
I hate them even more in the street, I would like to be able to relax when I'm walking through town without having to avoid bloody drama students running over to me with an overly sincere grin on their face asking for a "chat".
AAAAAghghhhghghghghg

I greatly dislike chugging and cold-calling but I loathe the overfamiliarity that seems to go with the territory.

"Have you got a minute for a chat?" Chats are for friends, not complete strangers on the street.

"Hello, mate/love." I am not their mate/love.

One grinning knobtwat at the door began his spiel by asking me what I was having for dinner and if I had saved any for him. I didn't give the sickening little tosspot any dinner but I did give him an earful.

madamh - soooo agree. i find ALL agressive sales techniques offensive and invasive. i wouldn't go in DFS or similar because i think they do it and i'm having a hard time fedning off estate agents at the moment who won't leave me alone. i dont object per se to charities fund raising but chuggers are agressive in their sales.

also i find it really fake the way they have started choosing chuggers based on appearance depnding on the charity. its always the good looking south asian (just a guess before i offend anyone) guys for amnesty or similar and on greenpeace day they bring out the crusty dreadlock crew - foild again - I KNOW you all work for the smae company anyway!!

meh

there are always chuggers in new george street in plymouth and i have bloody well had enough

I just say no thank you and walk off (if in street) or close the door with a goodbye.

I don't like giving to charity in that way.
