to think that "no flash photography" should mean no flash photography?

Went to see a show with DH, the tickets and signs at the venue all clearly stated no flash photography or recording equipment of any kind. Bags were search at the door for security and supposedly to check for any banned items such as outside food, alcohol, etc.

So the lights go down, the show starts, and as soon as it does it's just flash, flash, flash from all over the arena and loads of people with their faces lit up by that mobile phone screen glow. And if continued for the whole performance, the girl in front of us seemed to watch the whole show show via the viewer screen in the back of her camera, which she kept lifting above her head to get a clear shot.

One guy pulled a camcorder out and it was taken away from him but a girl was using a flash camera next to him and she was allowed to carry on. Some of the flashes were really bright and because it was dark they were quite distracting and dazzling, they definitely detracted from my enjoyment of the show.

I tried to tell a steward my issue but couldn't get out of the row without disturbing everyone (we were right in the middle), then I tried at the interval but by the time I found one it had restarted, he couldn't hear me clearly, and I didn't want to bellow my comments at him.

AIBU to complain to the venue about it or is it just part and parcel of events now? DH was annoyed by it too and some friends of ours who were also there but in a different area said it really pee'd them off too.

this is also my pet hate - especially as photos taken at events usually look really crap anyway.

yanbu - very annoying - tis only cos they want to upload a pic to match their facebook check-in Wink to show off where they are

Mymblesson · 25/02/2011 09:31

It's weird. Flashes have a range of about 10 feet and will not light up anything on the stage. People are morons.

It makes me laugh at sports events to see the constant glitter of flashes going off all around the arena. What exactly do they think they're lighting up? Someone doing the Long Jump 500 metres away? Idiots all.

CBear6 · 25/02/2011 10:01

Lol @ CameronCook - I always think that people who have time to check-in on FB during a night out have missed the point and obviously aren't enjoying themselves "no but I did enjoy myself, look #waves phone# I updated my status to say so!"

@ Mymblesson - I know what you mean, the girl in front was getting grainy blurs but was extremely excited by them.

I just think it's an insult to the people doing the show too. Fair enough if it was a concert and everyone was up out of their seats jumping round an dancing and there were glittering and flashing lights as part of the show I could sort of understand it because the flashes aren't interfering with anything but this was a proper sit down and focus your attention on the stage thing.

I was worried it was some sort of preggo-rage I was having, very glad I'm not the only person who hates it.

I travel on Eurotunnel a lot. They have this rule and it is on posters in everycarraige and announced over the tannoy on every crossing. People still choose to ignore it despite the warning that "it interferes with our fire security systems".

Why is it that an ever increasing section of society has deemed that certain rules (or even laws) do not apply to them?

CBear - a friend of a friend checks herself and everyone else in wherever she goes - literally the other day it was

Billynomates is @DDs school picking up DD

Billynomates dropping off @ballet before taking DD2 shopping

Billynomates is @River Island with DD2

You get the picture...and as for the checkins at peoples house for dinner Hmm
