is it an Emporer's New clothes moment or what am I not getting

the man is blind

he takes photographs

I understand he uses touch and hearing to shoot

I assume he cannot see them adequately or judge them after they have been taken

what am I missing?

Shame to leave your post unanswered, but don't know, haven't seen it.

DaffadownDilly · 27/02/2011 19:07

Aside from the fact that it's a camera phone advert.

I think it's pretty amazing the way that he interprets his surroundings through sound and other senses he still has and produces aesthetically pleasing photographs.

Half of the photos I take aren't as good as his and I can see. You close your eyes and take a load of photographs in a strange place, how many of them are usable?

sloggies · 27/02/2011 20:01

Seen it now - also a wider philosophical point about experiencing life in a different way that is equally valid to the more 'usual' way in which we interact with it?

activate · 27/02/2011 20:03

what a load of crap

the man is blind
photography is a visual medium

I see no existential philosophical construct

it's just odds

(and if you really think those are his photographs Grin)

Thank goodness I'm not the only one thinking what you are activate!! :)

PaperView · 27/02/2011 20:08

I think that what it is saying is "let the camera be your eyes"

I don't understand it either. I did wonder if he was visually impaired so he couldn't see things very well in the distance (but enough to take a photo) but could then appreciate the photographic representation of it on his phone.

BibiBlocksberg · 27/02/2011 20:13

"worraloadofshite"

In style of news reporter: 'plain talking, what MN is all about' Grin Grin

DaffadownDilly · 27/02/2011 20:13

Bloody cynic!

PigValentine · 27/02/2011 20:29

Blind people also paint. Maybe they shouldn't bother, considering they can't see it Hmm

activate · 27/02/2011 20:35

there is a difference between a visually impaired person painting a large canvas - there are shades and textures involved in painting

a digital photograph on a camera phone? point and click and then what?

please explain it so my small diseased brain can understand it

DaffadownDilly · 27/02/2011 20:50

Why does it have to please the artist/photographer though? Surely part of the enjoyment of doing things is to please others.

Small Google reveals that he is real, he seems to have a book of his photographs. Can't be too unusual.

Got people talking anyways so Nokia will be happy Smile

bettybosseye · 27/02/2011 20:52

I'm with you activate

hockeyforjockeys · 27/02/2011 20:55

I've assumed that the guy has some very near vision so could make out the images on the screen, even if he couldn't see the actual scene. Either that or he gets pleasure from the reactions of those who see the pictures.

DaffadownDilly · 27/02/2011 20:56

My bloody cynic comment was supposed to have a Grin after it.

Blush
DaffadownDilly · 27/02/2011 20:57

I don't understand why you would feel so strongly against it, all I think is good on him.

PigValentine · 27/02/2011 20:59

Shades is a bit academic. Texture - well ok, if they are painting in oil, and then touch it afterwards.

Lots of blind people do photography. They've had exhibitions and all sorts. Hmm

ladyfirenze · 27/02/2011 21:00

well, aren't the pictures for us to see? I really liked the rollercoaster, and I think I'd like it on it's own merit if I didn't know the photographer was blind. I guess your question op could be, what does the blind guy get from it (creatively speaking as he probably got a wedge of Nokia)

TimeToStartACHEEKYDiet · 27/02/2011 21:13

i didnt know he was blind haha.

MissVerinder · 27/02/2011 21:16

It doesn't matter what it means- you're talking about Nokia, so it worked...

nzshar · 27/02/2011 22:24

Just because someone is blind does not mean that they can't enjoy things like photography or art in general. Its not just about the pleasure of the person doing it but also about giving others pleasure, anyway maybe he does get pleasure just from the act of photography rather than the end product and just happens to have a talent. If this guy has had sight and has lost it he may have a PA describing for him the finshed product and would be able to "picture" it in his mind. I do get a little cross that attitudes towards disabilty can still place in pigeon holes, maybe I am taking this all to personally though DP is blind :)

PigValentine · 27/02/2011 22:34

nzshar you're not taking it too personally. Some people are just a bit ignorant.
