I can handle a gr8 and a TKS but I mean come on, what is the point in using 'kant' for can't and (jesus wept) 'behhar' for better?

language constantly evolves .... I doubt Shakespeare would recognise ours - seeing as he never managed to spell his name the same twice in a row

oh i H8 (see what i did there!) text speak. for gods sake. i can get the abbreviation part of it, H8 for hate etc. but when it is deliberately using the wrong letters to form words it makes me want to vomit up my cheap german wine. H8 IT! hehe.

Tortington · 24/02/2011 00:23

i have a shiney new phone and i am please to see that when i text it suggests grammar and spelling, its quicker for me to spell normally and i hope to god that more modern phones work this way,

tbh, it was an utter arseache with my old brick work moby becuase it took so bloody long to text anything that even i used text speak

ExeterisEasy · 24/02/2011 00:24

my neice sends me text messages (sorry txt msgs) all the time with abbreviations that i dont get!! ffs she is 13 and im 30 i cant be that out of it! but what the hell does cnt mt u 2nt cz mm wnt lt m mean? what the hell!!!!!

ExeterisEasy · 24/02/2011 00:24

i have heard kids on the train actually saying L O L rather than laughing...f r e a k y

fangbanger · 24/02/2011 00:25

what is TKS?

I think that the youth of today use a language that isn't even txt speak.

i keep seeing things with extra letters, or deliberatly spelt wrong like "Gawjus"

It is just weird and wrong

Udderly · 24/02/2011 00:25

But its these words are the same length. I can understand the convenience of gr8 and that it takes up less character space in a text message.

I doubt future employers will look on it as an evolving language if they are unable to write a CV.

"I am gud @ maffs"

"I wd lk 2 c da world"

ladysybil · 24/02/2011 00:26

phones with qwerty keyboards and predictive texting mean a lot less textspeak is used. However, a lot of it has entered normal language, and i no longer get stressed when i hear people say lol. I draw the line at omg, but lol i can cope with.
the worst are teh ones who go out of there way to stick capitals in the mix. thats a lot harder to do than not have capitals, so why stick them in?

squeakytoy · 24/02/2011 00:26

cnt mt u 2nt cz mm wnt lt m

sadly, I am able to translate that as " cant see you tonight because my mum wont let me"

Toygirl · 24/02/2011 00:28

I think it's an indication on how things evolve. People might not like it but it's a sign of the times and you have to get used to it as it's here to stay
