4yr does not want to talk on the phone

Hi all,

I have a 4 yr old who does not want to talk on the phone. My parents live abroad and love to exchange a few words but he refuses to talk on the phone........by the way he refuses to talk to anyone on the phone.... Have you any ideas how i can break this.......

Have you got a speakerphone could you have a conversation with him about his day/ toys etc while rellies listen in this is generally what talking on the phone is with my 2dcs.

I think that that sounds a good idea.

As well as Skype-even if he will just wave at first.

I agree with not forcing it, though.

My children still hate talking to the ILs though-but thats because they never have anything interesting to say & the pressure to hold the conversation was always on the children.

So it is still hello fine I will put you on to Dad.

We do the speakerphone thing too. I chat generally about what they've been up to and when they feel inspired they come over and talk too. Sometimes I can prompt them by deliberating saying something wrong - they can't help wanting to correct their "silly" mother.

We have Skype too but I'm not very fond of it because it tends to bring out the shouty, showy-off characteristics of ds.
