I have been waiting 2 weeks to find out whether I have been accepted for my pgce course or not

It didn't help that two people I knew who did it last year said they heard after a week

but I was told "within two weeks"

it's two weeks today

the uni can't tell me, they have to put it up on the gttr website - I have been checking the damn thing every couple of hours for AGES and no cigar

I called the gttr and the uni last Friday to see if there was any sign of a decision, they told me to wait until the two weeks was up

I called the gttr today and they said "it should be up, call the uni"

I called the uni, the bloke took my name and details and numbers etc, went off to speak to his colleague, then came back and said he couldn't confirm anything over the phone, the decisions have been made but I would just have to keep an eye on the gttr website until it is put up

I am going out of my MIND, my whole future is hanging on this thing and I can't sleep or concentrate on anything

I am picking over every detail of the interview trying to second-guess the decision

ARRRRRRGH!!!!!!!!!!!

please distract me, make me laugh or something, please

Hi
I sort of know what you are going through as I am waiting on the results of my first module of my masters today. I have been on edge all day but now I just want to know!!
Good luck, hope you hear soon and get the result you want Wink
PS where did you apply? I went to Liverpool Hope and they seem to have a policy about not giving any details over the phone so don't read too much into it!!

Antidote · 22/02/2011 16:37

OK, that was pretty useless. Try this Grin

Have another one

Now, go and do something silly like clean your fridge and STOP HITTING REFRESH. Wink

stiflersmom · 22/02/2011 16:38

clean the fridge Shock now steady on, old thing!

that would be a bit extreme Grin

You could use the time to buy the donuts?
Good luck Smile

stiflersmom · 23/02/2011 11:19

STILL nothing! And I can't phone them again, can I?

gttr woman yesterday said it was unusual for an institution not to get the results out within the two weeks - it's two weeks yesterday!

if I don't find out soon I will develop an ulcer, or dh will kill me

QueenStromba · 23/02/2011 11:21

I was just about to post to ask if you'd had any news - I was hoping that you hadn't posted again yesterday because you were off celebrating.

Boohooyou · 23/02/2011 11:22

Yes phone them again !
It'll make you feel a bit better and maybe someone will get the message to POST THE GODDAMN RESULTS !

stiflersmom · 23/02/2011 11:36

ok phoned gttr again, they said the uni are on their thris extension and have until 28th Feb to put their results up

phoned uni again, lady said they had got their new quotas in and she had to concentrate last week on sending out 300 odd offers, but I should get my result by the end of this week

does that sound negative? Like they have sent the offers first and the rejections are coming next?

AARRRGGGHHH I know there are worse things but this is killing me!

OP posts:
stiflersmom · 23/02/2011 11:36

third extension, not thris

PigValentine · 23/02/2011 11:42

If she was saying "we were sending out all the offer letters and now we're doing the other results" that would be a really harsh and inappropriate way of telling you, so hopefully that is very unlikely!

Is it a general admissions office / do they deal with different areas? Some courses might have made their decisions at different times - eg last week they were sending out offer letters for one course, as those decisions had been made, now your batch is being done.

Fingers crossed!

stiflersmom · 23/02/2011 11:45

no, it's just pgce admissions

fuckety fuck Sad

Even if they have sent out all of the initial offers and you haven't got one you might still get a place once they know how many people aren't taking up the places they've been offered.

PigValentine · 23/02/2011 11:52

What did the "new quota" bit mean - did she explain? Maybe they offer so many places, based on how many spaces thay had last year, find out their quotas, and then send out the additional offers? OR maybe different types of PGCE - primary / scondary, etc?

I think it is realistically very unlikely that they would imply it like that over the phone (I would certainly hope so!)

Also - your result could be one of those 300 offer letters - they probably send them 2nd class, and they probably spent the week checking and stuffing - so this week they will be being posted and arriving!

Do you know anyone else who applied - what Uni is it?

NinkyNonker · 23/02/2011 11:54

If she was sending out offers now they will prob arrive st the end of the week like she said...chill!

jenga079 · 23/02/2011 12:25

From what I understand, it's taken longer than usual this year because universities didn't know how many students they'd be able to take (hence the 'quotas' perhaps?)

FWIW, I didn't get onto my first choice PGCE place a few years ago and was absolutely gutted (not saying this will happen to you!) They didn't even interview me and I found out from the GTTR website (v. impersonal I agree!) However, my second place choice - despite longer commute and not such a good reputation - was absolutely fabulous. I wouldn't have changed it for the world. I was really well supported, met fabulous people and had great tutors / mentors. I met trainees from my first choice along the way and they weren't so impressed.

So, open mind, and RELAX!! If it works out, brilliant. If it doesn't, there will be other opportunities. Don't use up all your stress reserves during the application; you'll need plenty of it during the course... and the NQT year... and 'teaching' Smile

mumbar · 23/02/2011 13:20

Hi stiflersmom

Have you heard anything? I hope it was good news.

mumbar · 23/02/2011 13:25

Sorry posted then saw you've been back!!

I wouldn't read too much into it or you'll drive your self mad - or madder. Grin

Thanks for asking about my assignment - can I be braggy and say it was 81%. Doesn't sound much but it is 3rd year level course. And my highest yet. Smile

I have looked into RTP and GTP for teaching - so there are plenty of options available. I'm sure you'll be fine though. Smile

stiflersmom · 23/02/2011 16:59

I got in!!!!!!!!!!!!!! am delirious!

still have to sort out funding somehow, no idea what I am going to do about that, but I got a place!!!!!!

Well done. Now the really difficult bit starts Wink

QuietTiger · 23/02/2011 18:01

Stiflersmom - CONGRATULATIONS! I went through EXACTLY the same thing in 2006, so I know what you've been going through. :)

I hope that it's every thing that you want it to be. I certainly have never regreted doing a PGCE.

Very best of luck. :)
