YANBU

Good grief!

tabloidlover · 21/02/2011 21:10

But one is very little - I'd have gone ape.

Sassybeast · 21/02/2011 21:11

YANBU. A one year old can still make loads of noise whilst pulling themselves up on the side of the bath and then crashing down. He is an idiot. NO excuse.

JingleMum · 21/02/2011 21:11

YANBU

i would freak, i would have to be restrained.

if it were me i would reel off every horror story that i could find with regards to kids drowing in the bath. make him swear he will never, ever, ever do that again.

gillybean2 · 21/02/2011 21:12

I once turned to get some clean towels from the cupboard next to the bathroom door while ds and a friend (both aged 1) were in the bath together. Had my back to the bath for perhaps 30 seconds. When I turned around it was just in time to grab the dc who had toppled over and his head was just going under the water. I was fast/near enough that he didn't get more than a dunking, but it was a hell of a fright for me.

Never ever leave the room, not even for a minute! YANBU to freak at him.

Meglet · 21/02/2011 21:14

yanbu.

I wouldn't leave the bathroom with a 1yr old in the water.

I sit on the look seat tidying my nails / eyebrows to keep myself occupied while 2yo DD is in the bath.

atswimtwolengths · 21/02/2011 21:15

That would be the last time he supervised a bathtime. Nobody gets a second chance with small children.

I would have freaked and my 1 year old sits in one of those chairs - but you just never know, they move so fast and learn how to escape so quickly.

What was he doing?

LaWeasel · 21/02/2011 21:17

Possibly I need some horror stories.

Currently (and in next house) towels and DDs room are just outside bathroom, so have from DD being able to very sit very well, left DD for all of 3 seconds to nip out room and grab a towel/flannel/pjs (all on open shelves so don't even have to open cupboards) when I have forgotten.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 21/02/2011 21:17

I had a thread here recently because DH left just turned 3yo DD in the bath on her own for a moment. Consensus was that you can just about start leaving them then. One is way too young.

LaWeasel · 21/02/2011 21:18

She is/was a ridiculously still child though.

Didn't stand up or walk for a very long time.

Rosebud05 · 21/02/2011 21:18

YANBU to freak and this needs to be followed up with a frank talk with your dp about the avoidable risks of leaving a very young child alone for even a few seconds.

Or even, come to think about it, taking one's eyes off them for a few seconds. Had just got dd out of the bath and was helping her brush her teeth, glanced down and ds (just under a year) had silently slipped backwards and was laying in the bath with face out of the water as it was shallow.

I still shiver when i think of what might have happened if he's had fallen face down.

wholeymoley · 21/02/2011 21:29

gwendoline. i leave my 4.5 yr old and 2.5 yr old alone in bath while i dress my 3.5 month old. i live on my own. bathroom is too small to have dressing stuff in there. (bathroom is width of bath +sink). i am just outside. sometimes you have to. not everybody has a perfect bathroom and somebody else there to look after them all!

pippylongstockings · 21/02/2011 21:41

What was he doing?

I leave my 6 and 4 year old in the bath together to sort out clothes, washing, tidy up bedrooms, etc. and I have been leaving them for a quite a while - I am always in earshot, not downstairs. I could get to them within 5-10seconds if they needed me.

Think 1 year old is young to be left but was there a reason for it?

Zukiecat I don't think you need to ban him from ever doing bathtime again - seems extreeme.

Meglet · 21/02/2011 21:44

I leave my 4yo in the bath while I get my 2yo into her pj's.

fluffygal · 21/02/2011 22:04

I leave my 3,4,4 and 5 year old dcs in the bath and potter around doing other stuff but they look out for each other. Would never leave an only child under 2.5.

Underachieving · 21/02/2011 22:09

YANBU to give him stick for it, he should know better. Depending on what exactly you mean by freaked it might have been a little OTT, but the basic point is he knows he shouldn't have.

TyraG · 21/02/2011 22:10

I still don't leave my 4.5 (DS) and 3 (DD) in the bath alone (we bathe them together), but mainly for the fact I don't want all the bath water to end up on the floor.

LessNarkyPuffin · 21/02/2011 22:11

If the obvious drowning concerns don't bother him, surely the chance of the child turning the hot water on or self administering shampoo etc should worry him? Or flinging toys at the mirror, trying to climb out, drinking the water Hmm, shoving toys up the tap....

LessNarkyPuffin · 21/02/2011 22:13

Did I mention inviting the dog in?

MegBusset · 21/02/2011 22:16

Here's a horror story :(

sharbie · 21/02/2011 22:19

horror story v close to my family - never do it.just not worth the risk.
