This morning I went to church as I usually do. The services have been getting longer and longer over the last few years and today's was 1hr 41 minutes. Now dh has been tonight and I am cross because I've been waiting to have dinner with him. He has a lot of responsibilities in our church and so is just on his way home now. In his defence (I am pissed off because I'm hungry and I savaged him) he said the service didn't finish till 8.05 - so thats another 1hr 35 minutes.
It used to be over by 7.40 at the latest - 1 hr 10 with 1 hr 25 minutes max in the morning.

Some people go to both services so would have spent 3 hrs 16 minutes in church today. AIBU to think that's an awful lot. I don't feel we get extra benefit from the extra time - in fact the opposite because it pisses me off which is not very christian!

Choose a different church or talk to your priest/ pastor/ minister.

Or decide as a family which services you are going to.

No, they don't have to. We are lucky to live in a free country where adering to a religion is not complusory.

oh dear, i have to admit i was begging for our service to hurry up and finish this morning (1h30)as baby was getting hungry and i needed to get home and cook her lunch.i felt very unchristian as i left too
that said, i have very much enjoyed much longer services and in a previous church i would spend 4hrs for the morning service (including picnics on the lawn) Grin and then done a 3 hour stint of an evening when the children were in bed.
i dont think the preacher should cut short his talk IF he is a good speaker and has an important point to get across (and children are happily entertained and all can scoff biscuits)

YANBU - too long and self defeating IMO. If the minister is tiring the congregation out then, like all communication, there's a problem.
