Taken from a free paper produced by our district council:
Pupils at School bid farewell to Snowflake, their school teddy bear, who is flying out to Sierra Leone. Dressed smartly in his School uniform Snowflake is taking out a range of objects that represent life in Britain as well as some disposable cameras which will be sent back to the children so they can see him at School in Sierra Leone.

Why are you nauseated? Sounds like a run of the mill school exchange project to me.

ImFab · 20/02/2011 19:03

YABU, nothing wrong with that and children can learn from it.

EdgarAleNPie · 20/02/2011 19:04

a bit cutesy, but whatever. soudns like a worthy cultural exchange.

pozzled · 20/02/2011 19:09

Don't see anything nauseating in it.

DurhamDurham · 20/02/2011 19:12

I don't think I could ever be nauseated by a teddy bear being sent to children. Whatever you think about the plitical situation and human rights abuse in Sierra Leone the children are innocent. They should not be made to suffer because they live in a place that deals in Blood diamonds ect.

poochela · 20/02/2011 19:25

I think the school project is a good thing (educational and humanitarian etc etc) but definitely think that it's been nausiatingly (?) worded.

YABU

mercibucket · 20/02/2011 19:33

so long as they didn't call the bear Mohammed

choccyp1g · 20/02/2011 19:57

Fantastic, they have got rid of the bl**dy bear.

More seriously, links between schools around the world are generally considered a good thing.

FrottageCod · 20/02/2011 20:32

eek

starterfor10 · 21/02/2011 09:38

Perhaps calling it Snowflake didn't help.

LOL, I wonder how culturally specific teddy bears are. Will the kids in Sierra Leone think this is normal or will they be, like '?!'

BuzzLiteBeer · 21/02/2011 09:45

are children in Sierra Leone not allowed to do normal school projects then? Hmm

lazylula · 21/02/2011 10:08

Why is calling it Snowflake a problem? It is its name, probably chosen by the children at the school.

LadyOfTheManor · 21/02/2011 10:15

Snowflake is sometimes a word, an abusive word, used by other races to Caucasian people.

Sierra Leone is in West Africa.

I don't see the problem, but I can identify the link.

berryshake · 21/02/2011 10:15

Those asterisks are more nauseating than anything.

BuzzLiteBeer · 21/02/2011 10:16

Its a teddy bear, not a caucasian human.

I was just providing the link the OP was suggesting.

lazylula · 21/02/2011 10:17

Ok, Lady, was not really thinking of it like that. I was more looking from it from the point of view that the bear is white, perhaps they had snow at the time of naming it and some cute 5 year old suggested the name lol! I am a sucker for a cute story!

LadyOfTheManor · 21/02/2011 10:19

It didn't cross my mind until the OP suggested it!

I think it sounds like a nice project. Rather a teddy bear than shipping ALL of year 4 to Sierra Leone...

lazylula · 21/02/2011 10:19

Also, I hadn't seen your post Lady I made my comment, so my reply was in response to the OP to sorry!

starterfor10 · 21/02/2011 16:19

Lol berryshake sorry, just didn't want to name the schools.
