happy mum = happy baby.

There is so much more to it than that. It's a lazy catchphrase that seems to be shorthand for:

"I can't be arsed helping you with your problem, go for the easy option."

Parenting decisions go deep and feelings about them last for a long time.

e.g. MIL still feels guilty about doing CC on her middle son, 30-odd years ago. She thinks she would have been better advised to have fed him when he cried...

People come to MN with problems that may have many causes. Either try and winkle these out of the OP, or shush.

those who say happy mum happy baby are usually those selfish ones looking to justify their selfishness

harsh but true

ShinyMoonInAPurpleSky · 20/02/2011 17:56

Personally I feel that a happy baby = happy mum.

Would "happy teenager = relieved but impoverished mother" be better?

mrsgordonfreeman · 20/02/2011 17:58

Quite, Shiny. I always prefer to go with what dd wants, unless it involves eating gravel or prodding the cat's bumhole.

Shock

But I'm a miserable auld bag and my children are really happy!! Grin

I think its a bit of a smug thing to say really and agree with shinymoon

happy baby = happy mummy!

I'd be happy being on a beach on an Indian Ocean Island, mojito in hand, no kids. Don't think my baby would though.

mrsgordonfreeman · 20/02/2011 19:27

Right now I would be delighted if dd stopped chewing me and went to sleep instead.
