I have quit my job, that is the long and short of it and i am just composing my formal notice email to them. However i cannot work my notice period due to many reasons.

Last night was the final straw; i was in tears for three hours before work and also one hour there. I know a lot of people hate their job and i should, in times of financial crisis be happy with what i have or just stick it, but i couldn't i couldn't do it.

I was seriously considering hurting myself badly before going to work as a few nights in hospital would be much better than a few hours at work. I even worried DP by telling him i was going to throw myself down the stairs (and i have never spoke a truer word, i needed him to talk me out of it hence why i called him)

At work i had to leave, i spoke to a manager, he sent me home and told me that i could go home, sleep on it and have a think about it. Which i do thank him for, but i have slept on it, and i now feel even stronger for leaving. I am meant to be working the next 4 night shifts, so AIBU to not work my notice period?

HowFuckingRude - I think her contemplating hurting her self overrides anything else !

HowFuckingRude · 19/02/2011 15:31

I wasn't arguing that Blessings

If her state of mind is such that she would consider self-harm then she is in no condition to look after other people.

My point (not very well made) is that simply not turning up at work can have a serious knock-on effect for others. At least by informing her employers that she will not be turning up gives them the chance to get cover for her.

Hi OP, having been in a similar situation, definitely go to the doctors and dont go back.

People dont realise how the effects of things like this can be so much more damaging long term than physical illnesses such as flu or broken legs - for which you would take time off.

Well i sent the notice and i am going to back it up with a phone call.

Had time to calm down too, i am still in a very weird place but DP is helping me through. I may speak to HR i don't know, it is certainly the last thing on my mind. I am going to go to the doctor though. On my notice i put that i would be taking unpaid sick leave and that i would back it up with a note if necessary.

As i said i am still in a very weird place, not where i want to be. Speaking to DP (who works in the same place) he said iw as near hitting self destruct, as i have once before. We have discussed where this leaves us TTC and we have also decided todelay it too for the sake of the child.

Thank you for the advice, lots which i have taken heed of. Thanks x

What has caused you to hate this job so much, if they have made you feel like this, you could look at constructive dismissal.

Innocent, looking at your profile [stalker emoticon] I see you are only 19. You are not being abused or exploited at work are you??

Sad for you and hope you are starting to feel better.
