To wonder what on earth would possess someone to pierce their 4mo son's ear?

AIBU to think that it's just absolutely grim to give a 4mo little boy an earring? The family in question are white, English C of E, so it's not a cultural thing. I just can't get over how yucky it is - a nice turquoise earring as well! All 3 of the boys in the family have an earring, but at least they're 3 and 5 which makes it ever so slightly better.

Each to their own, but i think its a horrible thing to do

5DollarShake · 19/02/2011 11:06

Grim is indeed the word.

d0gFace · 19/02/2011 11:08

I dont get it, but lots of parents seem to like it.

Lillyofthevalley · 19/02/2011 11:09

I agree each to their own, but fail to understand why you would want to cause unessecary pain and risk of infection to a baby just because of vanity.

doricpatter · 19/02/2011 11:14

Utterly bonkers. I hate it with a passion.

hairylights · 19/02/2011 11:16

Oh my god op. What has being White and c of e got to do with it? You snob.

BootyMum · 19/02/2011 11:17

Horrid, I agree.

taintedpaint · 19/02/2011 11:19

Oh yuck. Earrings on babies/children who are too young to choose for themselves to have holes put in their ears are disgusting.

flibbertigibbert · 19/02/2011 11:20

hairylights - it wasn't meant as a snobbish thing - just that some in some religions or cultures it's more normal to do it. A Spanish friend said that it was much more common for little babies to have pierced ears there.

taintedpaint - the thing about being too young to choose is the worst bit I think. At least with a girl, she would be more likely to choose to have her ears pierced later in life anyway.

But I think people make more assumptions about boys with pierced ears

Yuck.

mrsravelstein · 19/02/2011 11:24

horrid. but then again i hate it on baby girls too.

FabbyChic · 19/02/2011 11:24

How chavtastic and totally unacceptable.

hairylights · 19/02/2011 11:29

fibber you do sound like a snob though and you definately have your judgey pants on.

Not something I'd do but I'd not judge people who do either.

Newgolddream · 19/02/2011 11:32

I dont think Op sounds like a snob at all. We all have opinions and are only human so if we think this is tacky - and I do - then of course its going to make you a bit wondering about the people who do.

harvalp · 19/02/2011 11:40

"Not something I'd do but I'd not judge people who do either."
I would! I hate non-judgementalists.

squeakytoy · 19/02/2011 11:44

I would judge it too... as utterly chavscum.

Little boys with earrings look awful no matter what the age.... by their teens its different, and more acceptable, but on a baby... eughhhhhhhh.

mmmitsdelicious · 19/02/2011 11:44

Horrid

doricpatter · 19/02/2011 13:40

So you'd be cool with me arranging for my 5 month old daughter to get some random Chinese lettering above her arse crack then hairy?

doricpatter · 19/02/2011 13:41

I've never seen the distinction between piercings and tattoos - both unnecessary mutilations.

ENormaSnob · 19/02/2011 13:43

I would judge.

TakeItOnTheChins · 19/02/2011 13:46

What IS it with the "We Mustn't Judge" thing on here?

Piercing the ears of a toddler is bad enough, but I'm sorry - if you pierce your baby's ears I am going to judge you as chavvy, common, cruel and probably a bit thick.

Just as some people deem expressing an opinion as "Judgey".

HowFuckingRude · 19/02/2011 13:53

My son was 16 when he first got his ears pierced.

My youngest had been asking since he was 10 and I kept saying no. He's 14 now and not that interested anymore to be honest.

I dislike pierced ears on a child who is too young to have asked for/agreed to the piercing.

TeenageWildlife · 19/02/2011 13:56

How vair vair un-Mnet

Glamour · 19/02/2011 13:57
