To want to punch people who talk loudly near my pram

It takes me ages to get my DD to nap and I often have to go out walking for a LOOOOOONG time so she sleeps. So often some loud person shouts after their child/dog just as I have managed to get her sleep. It gets on my nerves, it really does!

PFB perchance?

AmazingBouncingFerret · 17/02/2011 19:24

LOL. It'll get better OP. Honest.

Foreverondiet · 17/02/2011 19:25

Sorry YABU if you need quiet then stay at home!

Just wait until its you with the screaming toddler waking the babies up!

OTTMummA · 17/02/2011 19:26

Thankyou for cheering up my drab afternoon.

innocent-21 · 17/02/2011 19:26

YABU and making a rod for your own back. My mum told me always to hoover when DS's were asleep to get them to sleep through noise.

They have slept through countless parties, gatherings, park activities etc.

More noise the better I say!

Do you have just the one child, OP?

BornToFolk · 17/02/2011 19:27

YABU, of course but I totally know where you are coming from. I remember getting really annoyed with a friend when I bumped into her in town trying to get DS to sleep in his buggy. She actually wanted to stop me for a chat and say hello to DS! How rude! Grin

I used to walk through the park as it was quiet there, or up and down Tesco car park as it had small paving slabs that made the buggy vibrate at just the right speed to send DS off.

NinkyNonker · 17/02/2011 19:28

Oh I know the feeling. Totally irrational and unreasonable and you would never 'do' anything about it (I hope?!), but frustrating none the less! I little boy on a scooter ran into me/the pram in a shop yesterday when DD had just gone to sleep, mildly irritating!

pigletmania · 17/02/2011 19:29

YABU and precious. Que a couple of years time, you will be the anoying person shouting after their child, irritating other mothers with pfb trying to get them to sleep.

LoopyLoopsHulaHoops · 17/02/2011 19:31

Ummm, it is frustrating when they've just got to sleep, but, well, you can't really expect everyone in the outside world to be silent, can you?

Have you thought about erecting a massive sign?

cakeywakey · 17/02/2011 19:31

Must remember not to shout at my toddler next time she's in mortal peril at the roadside/park/shop if I might wake a sleeping baby Wink

OP, yabu but I know how frustrating it can be if, after you've finally got your baby off to sleep, they're suddenly woken up. Hope it gets better for you soon.

pleasethanks · 17/02/2011 19:31

Oh I know it is totally irrational and unreasonable, course I do! It was tongue in cheek!

I would love to have her sleeping at home, but when she refuses to nap, I have to take to pounding the streets!

Oh please do yourself a favour and dont train your DC to only sleep when it is quiet! You will regret it any time you try to go anywhere and holidays will be impossible.

Trust me, I did this with DD1 and it was a HUGE mistake! Thankfully the others had to learn to sleep with noise around, as they had their sibs making a racket!

SoupDragon · 17/02/2011 19:32

Think how toned your thighs will be.

Dylthan · 17/02/2011 19:32

Yes yabu.

But it is annoying my 4yr old ds cannot master the art of being quite it annoyed me no end when dd was first born she's 6 months now and can sleep through most things.

pleasethanks · 17/02/2011 19:34

I am NOT training my DD to sleep when only quiet. It is not my bloody fault if she wakes when someone hollers at the top of their voice as we go past! She can, at times, sleep through a right racket, but it is all about how deep she is. Nor is it my fault she wakes everytime the pram stops moving, but that is a whole other issue.

I'm more annoyed by the people that blow smoke into my pram as I walk by... seriously, how hard is it to turn away?!

OP- I know exactly where you are coming from. Today I got back to my house and DD was still kind of awake so I went for another walk without going in!

jonicomelately · 17/02/2011 19:37

I know you don't realise it yet but the rest of the world really does not revolve around your dd's sleep habits.

jan123 · 17/02/2011 19:38

YABU....you should put a sign or your buggy..that say's...trying to get baby asleep please be quiet....

Dylthan · 17/02/2011 19:39

You can't seriously expect people to tip toe around every pram they see on the street just in case there is a baby sleeping or trying to sleep can you? Confused

MaryPortasFan · 17/02/2011 19:41

OP- think some people haven't noticed that this is a frustrated tongue-in-cheek kind of a thread!

pleasethanks · 17/02/2011 19:43

MaryP, I know, I know. I can't believe people think I am meaning this in all seriousness. Yes, it is frustrating when it happens, but christ, I know it is just one of those things!

She did ask Mary...
