To think it was cheeky of the gas engineer to break my boiler then leave without mentioning it?

Title says it all really.

The gas engineer came round today to fix our boiler which has been dropping its pressure since December but is still working.

He called unannounced so I let him in, but said I would have to go out to take my son for his check-up. I said if he needed to go before I got back, just to pull the door too.

Anyway, I got back, and found the boiler cover on the worktop, and the boiler switched off. I rang the company and they (eventually) said 'oh yes, as he was fixing the boiler the pump broke Hmm and so he had to order another one, he'll be back. He's turned the boiler off for now as it isn't safe'

So, no heating or hot water till then. I am pregnant and have an 11 month old. The engineer knows this.

AIBU to think that he could have left me a note if he had to leave, rather than just a broken boiler and nothing to suggest when he was coming back to fix it?

The women I spoke to wasn't even apologetic on the phone either. She said she couldn't expedite the repair 'because they have to deal with requests in the order they come in' and my boiler has only been broken since today...I am livid!!

Years ago I took my car for its first service - was nearly brand new and not a scratch on it.

When I went to pick it up they were hurrying me out of the door and definitely guiding me round to the back of the car, virtually throwing the keys at me. I walked to the front of the car and there was a large dent in the top of the bonnet.

You could see from the look on the guy's face that he absolutely knew they'd been caught out and just hoped to get me out the door so they could say "not me guv". Cheeky buggers. Obviously they ended up repairing it at their expense!

Should hope so too!

I ended up saying on the phone that they could either fix the boiler asap or I would be arranging for someone else to come and fix it and would send them the bill...could do without the hassle and expense of that though.
