to refuse to sign something I don't agree with

At work my objectives have been issued to me, I have had no input and am not permitted any. I am now epxected to sign that I agree that they are achievable.

As I have had no input I have not formed a view as to whether they are or not - they are not mine, I have not agreed them, so I do not see why I should agree that they are achievable.

Am I being unreasonable and should I just sign them?

No. How big is the company, do you have an HR department? Are these objectives just for you or generally for your role? I wouldn't sign as if you then don't achieve them you'll be performance measured against something you were never going to hit and they can refuse to give you salary upgrades/bonuses accordingly.
The whole point of objectives is that they are set with the individual in mind.

Can you sign the document but crossing through the bit that says 'I agree etc', initialing it, and writing in that you do not agree, reasons for not agreeing and suggesting for what the objectives should be?

That way you have signed the piece of paper as you need to but you have not agreed to the objectives and your reasons (as well as reasonable objectives) are there on the paper when they come to look at it...

Agree with kitbit. YANBU : why should you sign something you haven't agrred leaving them to judge your performance on that basis?

YANBU. I didn't sign mine in a previous job. I was given the piece of paper to sign, didn't, and was never chased for it. I found another job a few months later. Smile

Tricky one, both DH and I have objective based contracts, also linked to our bonuses.

Mine are agreed with my line manager and my company make a big thing of objectives being SMART - specific, measurable, agreeable, realistic and timely. They are reviewed and updated quarterly again between LM and myself.

My DHs are determined by his LM, put in a letter, sent to the house and not mentioned again until the end of the year!

Different companies have different ways of working. Have you been treated differently to others or this the standard?

Do you genuinely think they are unrealistic or are you just annoyed with the principle of the way the process has been managed?
