He,s all over the tabloids today, looking very downbeat about a judge throwing out a case of his in the USA.

Was hesuing for £15m or spending £15m to sue? (The mind boggles at the figures)

I like Davie B as a footballer, but as a role model I am not so sure

I am a footie fan but think the finances in the premier league are crazy.

£50m for a player who has lost his confidence. hmmmmm

I just hate their "brand", so many people must buy into it, but it's all bullshit.

In her last interview, VB said they have a date night every Wednesday. They are never in the same bleeding country!

Yesterday it was all over the papers that DB flew out to be with VB for valentines-how romantic etc etc. But in the same article they admit it's the first time they've been together for 7 years!!

"He wants the government make sky sports separate football from other sports so that our cash is kept out of footballers hands."

He is aware that such a move would cripple rugby financially and lead to almost all of the decent players moving to France. Does he protest equally vehemently about his money going to rugby players he he finds morally reprehensible or actors on tv shows/movies he doesn't watch or agree with their personal life?

Oh and it might actually increase the amount of money footballers make.

They could sue either of you but the mantra in law is you go after the deepest pockets. I'd imagnie when you sell your story the paper will include a liability clause where they could then come after you if it was found to be fake and they were succesfully sued but that would be seperate from the other suit.

Exactly right Cyclebump - he had no hope of winning in the US. As for English proceedings, apart from the general issue of costs I'm assuming the payment in mechanism still exists in English law meaning that even if you win you may not recover your costs (disclaimer - last practised as a solicitor 10 years ago). Not that DB is short of money of course, but I think it's right that he won the case in Germany?

FWIW I think the problem is that once you start threatening legal action the public tend to think "no smoke without fire" unless you take it all the way. Better to maintain a dignified silence in the face of all the evidence, surely?!

As an aside - I have it on very good authority that the Beckham children are absolutely delightful, so DB and VB must be doing something right?

When he and VB have sued for libel before they have given the damages to charity.

I think payment in mechanism is still the way but I'm just a production journalist so could be wrong. I just loved the libel section of my course so always keep an eye out for that kind of case
