to not pay for these pasties AKA Pastygate

Short Story
Given to much stuff when I ordered some pasties, shop wants payment, I have not got the money, nor want the pasties.

Long Story
I christened my youngest child on Sunday and as part of the buffet, I had ordered billions of finger rolls and 20 small pasties from my local bakery. FYI I didn't see examples of the small pasties in the shop just had them described to me. I paid in full then and there, and it was Lady A (area manager) who took my order but never asked for any contact details and I never knew that I should of left my name and address etc.

Went down Saturday morning before lunch like I was told to and asked for my order which Lady B loaded into my car in two massive plastic trays.

I cut, buttered and rewrapped all the bread on Saturday night but only opened one of ten boxes of pasties. It had two pasties in it, as expected when you have ten boxes and an order of 20 pasties. Mother and I thought whilst they were small they were larger than we had wanted but we decided to still use them and aimed to cut in half the following morning before setting out the buffet.

Sunday whilst setting up the buffet I start to open the boxes. OMG pasties everywhere.

Whilst the box I had opened previously had just two pasties in it but the others were filled to the top. Two of the boxes had 10 very small pasties in each, which were meant for me and these were put on the buffet. But I was left with all these excess to my order pasties.

The bakery was closed on Sunday, so all I could do was to send all the pasties still boxed and untouched by human hand back with my mother and into her fridge and get on with the christening.

I mentioned the mistake to my friend who just attending the christening, as I knew her father deals with the complaints for this Northern bakery shop and was told to return them Monday and of course I wouldn't be charged for the shop's mistake.

I went down this morning after the school run to the bakery to tell them about the error and to arrange to return these pasties to them (I need to pick them up from my mother's fridge)

After waiting in the queue for 5 minutes with the bread tray, I get to the front of the queue. I said 'I am afraid I was given the wrong order on Saturday' Lady B was very cross with me, saying 'Yes, I known , I got in a lot of trouble and those pasties need paying for.'

I explained that I only looked at one box of two pasties on Saturday and didn't realise the error until Sunday and that the order was put in my car by the staff (her in fact) it wasn't that I picked up the wrong stuff or anything.

She repeated that they needed paying for.
I explained what my friend's father said, that in cases when the shop made an error the customer would not be charged. She agreed and huffed.

I said I was surprised they didn't take contact details off customers in case of mistakes and she said the lady A should of done this.

I said I would be back shortly with the pasties and she said not to bother, she would be obliged to throw them out anyway.

Now I feel terrible, I have loads of pasties I neither wanted or paid for and I feel bad that Lady B got in trouble. My mum says I am being daft and it wasn't our fault.

I don't have spare money, I saved up for the christening it was a very cheap and cheerful do, I haven't got the money to pay for unwanted food, it would pretty much wipe out by £40 weekly food budget...so AIBU to not pay.

YANBU. If too many pasties going off can you donate to a soup kitchen?

Woman in bakery sounds foul.

You sound lovely.

Ah! Welcome PatriciaHolm . Not as many over here in the FMC as I imagined there would be but perhaps that's due to time of day?

Anyway, have a seat and can I offer you a pasty? Or a pair of pasties?

Ursula - stop drooling over pasties unless you're properly hungry and then you can eat them as long as it's slowly and enjoying every mouthful.

If you're just pigging them for the sake of it, get yourself back over to the Paul McKenna thread woman! Wink

Opps, I missed out of the earlier thread that Lady B had also told me, she would have to pay for the pasties in question.

I checked with my friend and she told me the company did NOT charge their staff for mistakes. So Lady B made me feel bad and tried to get me to pay for stuff, by lying about having to pay herself :(

So when I took the second tray back this afternoon, I told her that I had checked and good news she wouldn't be charged for making a mistake, as it is not head office policy to do so...she looked a bit sheepish.

Any how, all is well that ends well. So now I have no guilt at eating the flipping things. There are several in my freezer, my friends freezer and a few at my mums.

Rather not name the shop, Mufti. It was a simple enough mistake, it was the handling of it that made me cross. All dealt with now. :)
