I even hate the online type now.

I'm an online but love food and cooking and eating.

I like browsing the recipes on the site for something new to try then one click and all the ingredients are in the trolley.

Cannot stand supermarket shopping unless its very very quiet

valiumredhead · 13/02/2011 17:28

ragwort yes, love to cook, especially new things.

I recently changed my method of supermarket shopping and it has mad it so much more enjoyable, as well as saving me a lot of money.

I now do an online Tesco shop every other week for all my "bulk" non-food items like laundry powder, nappies, wipes, toilet roll, bottles and cartons of soft drink, etc.

(So so easy using the iPad/iPhone app, for anyone who hasn't tried it - takes me 5-10 minutes.)

I then pop to our local Waitrose (a 2-minute drive) once a week for food, and can spend my time browsing and planning meals properly for 30-40 minutes. I'm not a big foodie, but DH is. DH also pops along at the weekend to buy the odd item.

Beforehand I was going to Tesco once a week for everything and it drove me insane. The staff were so rude and they always seemed to not have what I wanted, plus I usually spent a lot more on things we didn't need.

Am currently pregnant with DC2, which is what prompted the change in strategy, didn't want to lug heavy stuff to the car.

Online. Set up a 'Usuals' list. Takes 10 mins. How hard can it be?

Malificence · 13/02/2011 18:04

I detest it too, I had to go on my own this morning as DH was working, he's the trolley emptier/bag packer (I just stand there tutting at other people mostly).
I was annoyed from the moment I walked in, first I had no pound coin or token for the trolley so I had to go to the cash machine then change a tenner, then there were hundreds of people crowded around the
gullible sucker Valentine displays blocking the way to the veg isle - when I left I was in a homicidal rage.

Don't get me started on online shopping, I've tried everyone, they all miss things out or substitute stupid items. Angry

I'm not too keen on any kind of shopping but food shopping is a special kind of hell.

MarshaBrady · 13/02/2011 18:05

Ocado. I just did it. Very easy.

Only annoying if I forget something.

spanky2 · 13/02/2011 18:06

You are all so lucky to afford to do on line shopping. I have to go to AldiSad. Poor me...

Georgimama · 13/02/2011 18:07

Asda do online spanky.

Nippolopolis · 13/02/2011 18:12

Hate it!! Hate it on-line but especially hate actually having to go in a supermarket. I become irrational and glare at people. Why do people stop in the middle of an aisle to chat FGS?!

Might try the iphone scanner and see if it stops me putting the shopping off until we are eating old weetabix out the back of the cupboard.

spanky2 · 13/02/2011 18:16

I used to shop there and the veg would go rotten before the end of the week. Has it improved?

GentleOtter · 13/02/2011 18:22

Detest shopping of any sort.

After a boycott of Tesco for a year when it took a week for the eventual arrival of our shop, last week I gave them another go.
The van arrived but drove off and was last heard of on the Perthshire/Inverness border.
I got my money back but not a redemption of the vouchers.

Asda are the only other place who deliver here and they seem to give you what they feel you should have rather than your original order.

I may now trap rabbits and live off oatmeal.

thefentiger · 13/02/2011 18:22

I love Online shopping and love cooking as well.
I do meal planning with spreadsheetsGrin and love the fact that I can pop in the kitchen and check whether Ive got the ingredients I need.
I spend much less- about half Blush, can do it in my pjs with a coffee in hand and it takes about 5 minutes.
Then a lovely person brings it to my door and I only have to put it away.
Tbh I am baffled why anyone would slog around a packed supermarket.
We have a bakers, butcher and deli within walking distance so I top as needed .

happybubblebrain · 13/02/2011 23:29

Ragwort - maybe we could do a supermarket crawl together?

WhatsWrongWithYou · 13/02/2011 23:38

I hate both kinds. Every time I do an online order I think, should do that more often, but then no sooner has the food arrived than you have to start planning the next delivery!
Can't get my head into that again for at leastvanother five days so I end up trolling round the aisles again.
It's just so dull dull dull.
