Saw a message from a friend to another on facebook. First one was complaining she had a load of ironing to get through, second one said 'what is the au pair doing? Don't have a dog and bark yourself. Tell her its her job as you are far too busy having a career.lol.

I think it's a pretty poor way to talk about another person, would anyone want to hear themselves talked about openly in such a way?

Disrespectful and offensive, YANBU.

And yes, made me think of Lead Balloon too :)

I have a live in housemaid. I haven't seen my iron for 5 years. Why employ someone to look after you and then do it yourself? I have to say though, I would never write that on Facebook. Although it is just a saying, I would feel the whole dog metaphor was inappropriate. And if I had an issue with my maid, I would sort it out, not winge on Facebook.

It's ok MardyBra I think your argument is a non sequitur as:

a) I made no value judgment on the difference between being called a fish and a dog. I prefer dogs to fish so, imo, dogs win in the quality I hold of dogs against fish in my regard.

b) there is a person being singled out as not very special in 'there are plenty of fish in the sea' and that is the person who has just dumped the friend. So in actual fact it is very focussed on one person and therefore that person is singled out.

c) You are kept if you are in employment or in a relationship. You are kept employed by the company/institution etc. you work for. Or you are kept in love and respect (hopefully) in a relationship. The fact there is a 2 way keeping and mutual benefit (hopefully) doesn't alter the facts.

YABU, I am fed up with people taking offence on other peoples behalf, you obviously have far too much time on your hands.

stfu complaining

MardyBra · 13/02/2011 13:31

So DawnTigga - you wouldn't mind if someone called you a bit of a dog?

dawntigga · 13/02/2011 14:59

Wouldn't bother me at all. I value certain peoples opinions and not others. I'm choosy and quite frankly don't care what others think of me. I'm to old to be have teenage angst and be bothered by others words. It's hardly the worst thing I've ever been called. I'm a big believer in those that mind don't matter and those that matter don't mind.

BTW nice change of context there.
