To have laughed my socks off, or should I have been stricter?

DD (9.9) had a friend to stay over last night, this morning they went to the baker to buy some croissant. When they came back, DH was looking at DD strangely. When I had a closer look they had both grown a pair of bosoms.
Closer inspection revealled both had socks stuffed down their vests, although DDs friends had slipped toward her naval.
Should I have been firmly disapproving or, have laughed my face off as I did?

I would have laughed.

Ooopsadaisy · 12/02/2011 08:59

Laugh.

Didn't you do this when you were young? I know we did.

What's to be strict about?

Bless 'em.

TheProvincialLady · 12/02/2011 08:59

Why on earth would you be firmly disapproving?!

StarlightPrincess · 12/02/2011 09:00

Hahahahaha this is the sort of thing I did when I was 9! To be honest, I would have done the same thing as you! They're only experimenting, I don't think there's any need for a lecture or anything drastic.

RunAwayWife · 12/02/2011 09:00

LOL,
I would have laughed too

QueenSconetta · 12/02/2011 09:01

I think its not so much doing it she means to be disapproving about but to be going out like that.

I think I would have laughed too, no need really to disapproving, kids will be kids.

Tell DDs friend not to worry, most people's bosoms slip towards their navel eventually Smile

Bogeyface · 12/02/2011 09:01

We have had this with dd2 (also 9), although she used oranges!

What else is there to do but laugh?!

RunAwayWife · 12/02/2011 09:02

Although maybe if you stopped laughing your socks off they would not have any socks to put down their tops, tell me are you always this carless with your socks? Grin Grin

CuntTrumpet · 12/02/2011 09:04

Potatoes, as well as being nutritious and good for you, also double up as pretend breasts. Socks are probably more comfortable though.

manicbmc · 12/02/2011 09:05

I didn't need to stuff my vest at 9 Blush

But I would have pmsl at your dd too. Grin

kreecherlivesupstairs · 12/02/2011 09:06

We only have ready mashed spuds in the house at the moment so that would be messy and not look too nork like.
I only asked about the disapproving thing because apparently, according to an overheard discussion of my mothering, I am too lax.

verytellytubby · 12/02/2011 09:11

I'd have laughed.

PrettyLittleHateMachine · 12/02/2011 09:19

My DD's step mum is 37 weeks pg at the moment. Last week I watched as DD (nearly 4) shoved one of her dolls up her top and pretend to rub baby oil into her tummy. I think I laughed and cried!

Knackeredmother · 12/02/2011 09:26

What's to be strict about? What am I missing? It's just funny!

Ooopsadaisy · 12/02/2011 09:26

If you'd posted this under feminism you might get a different response.

There might be the view that this is an example of forced sexualisation on young girls and the whole "body image" argument.

CuntTrumpet · 12/02/2011 09:29

Where is the 'forced' coming from in your point?

Ooopsadaisy · 12/02/2011 09:35

Oh look - I'm not a feminist - I should possibly have put the expression in quote marks as it's just something I've heard said about thongs and padded bras.

I was just making the point that there may be a feminist view on this. Everyone so far seems to think the OP should have a good old laugh but I'm just playing Devil's Advocate.

WimpleOfTheBallet · 12/02/2011 09:39

I think it's normal for them to imitate grownups...but 9's quite young imo to have the guts to go out with fake boobies on!

Bogeyface · 12/02/2011 09:45

Reminds me of the youngest DDs dressing up as "Persian Princesses". I didnt have the heart to tell them that they looked more like strippers with their bikinis and sarongs (my sarongs actually!)

slightlymad72 · 12/02/2011 09:53

God knows what the feminists would think of my boys,(8 and 11) both of them like to parade around the house with inflated balloons up their jumpers, they are very picky they have to be just the right shape.
One of the boys was in the middle of the supermarket and placed 2 coconuts in front of his chest then proceeded to jiggle them around singing very loudly I've got a lovely pair of coconuts.

As a responsible adult I did mention that the behaviour was inappropriate and I expect them not to continue it, especailly in public....NOT!!!! I couldn't do anything for laughing.

Bogeyface · 12/02/2011 10:06

slightly, my friend took me to the supermarket on Tuesday and I sniggered when she said she needed Melons. She said she wouldnt take me again if I didnt behave :o

twolittlemonkeys · 12/02/2011 10:13

I'd have wet myself laughing. I remember stuffing cotton wool balls in my bra when all my friends were developing but I was still flat-chested! Actually I still don't have much in the way of boobs but use the slightly more sophisticated gel bra now Grin

WimpleOfTheBallet · 12/02/2011 10:17

Grin at slightly's boys! I love that song! So descriptive!
