Which will you choose, Not to believe in God and die and find out that there is God...or Believe in God and die, only to find out that there is no God?

If there really is an Abrahamic religion-style God then I'd want to have a quick chat with Him about just how poor His marketing campaigns are before Ge sent me down to hell. He really needs to re-think His PR strategy as it's just not working well.

MavisEnderby · 11/02/2011 22:29

what? yes am pished (mortal sin|) and can't spell correctly lol!Quite like sernsetive as an adjective

The first risk as I'm confident there's no God, heaven or hell.

MavisEnderby · 12/02/2011 00:05

lol sorry bad night am being an arse!

OTheHugeManatee · 12/02/2011 00:08

I'll choose to live well, to the best of my abilities, and take my chances. If there is a god, s/he will recognise that I've done my best.

LaurieFairyCake · 12/02/2011 00:14

I'm fecked then. I believe in god but not heaven HmmGrin

AgentZigzag · 12/02/2011 00:48

What if an essential part of what happens afterwards is taking that leap of faith Manatee?

And how does that work Laurie?? What do you believe happens after you die?

peeriebear · 12/02/2011 00:54

Don't believe one iota. Religion requires people to be servile and arrogant at the same time. no thanks. Have never even entertained the truth of an omnipresent, omnipotent creator who has utter power over everything ever yet does... Nothing, ever.

Katey1010 · 12/02/2011 01:57

My grandmother was one of the best people who ever walked the earth. Poor but gave any excess to animal charities. Feminist, anti-racism (back when it wasn't cool) and a great woman. I loved her and she died not believing. If any God doesn't want her (if it turns out we're wrong) then S\He isn't good and therefore not much of a God and Heaven wouldn't be worth the trip.

CheeseandGherkins · 12/02/2011 02:04

I believe in God, the God I believe in and have read in the bible (and heard read at church when I went) was a forgiving one and Hell wasn't made for us humans but for fallen angels. That's what I believe. I was brought up catholic and went to a catholic primary and secondary but I don't go to church much now.

Lot's of arguements about religion though that it's based on where you're born and that is probably true to an extent but I do believe in God.

reinitindear · 12/02/2011 02:12

I think Mary McCarthy said she would dislike a god who would punish her for not believing in him and she would not like to spend eterni
ty with such a person (or something similar).
And that is how I live my life I do no harm to anyone but I do not denounce homosexuality if there is a God he either accepts me or he doesn't.Although I always thought e was all forgiving?

reinitindear · 12/02/2011 02:13

Oh bold gone wrong sorry! or was it a higher powerSmile

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 12/02/2011 02:14

I don't think it's a choice

However, no-where in the Bible does it say that just because there's a God you'll get an easy ride in life or shit won't happen.

I also believe in the afterlife too.........though I think even if I didn't believe in God I'd believe in the afterlife of some sort after my near death experience - as there was definitely something there........

However, the great thing about the God I believe in is that he lets me choose what I want to do in life and what I want to trust in.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 12/02/2011 02:17

The God I believe in is all forgiving - but you have to ask for him to forgive you (that's where the free will bit comes in Grin)......before you die - not once you're dead and get to heaven and he says "but ermm............" Wink

reinitindear · 12/02/2011 02:18

katy1010 your Grandmother sounds amazing.

CheeseandGherkins · 12/02/2011 02:39

Why would a God make you ask forgiveness before you die but if you didn't just throw you out? What sort of God would that be? I don't believe that

reinitindear · 12/02/2011 03:00

Cheeseandgherkins not only are you making me hungry with your name but I once asked the door to door knockers something very similar when I was 14 and was told that "this is your chance now" I asked them that if he was all forgiving would he forgive me? they actually said no that this was my chance and if I turned my back on the Lord now that would be it.From then on I decided that if that was true I wanted nothing to do with a God like him/her

DepartmentOfCountingTheMoon · 12/02/2011 10:31

I genuinely don't understand the morality of any all-forgiving God that will accept a apology from someone while they're on the earth but won't accept a genuine, heart-felt apology when that person is finally faced with the enormity of their mistakes regardless of how well they have lived their life.

On what basis is that a reasonable course of action? What does it hope to achieve?

KnittedBreast · 12/02/2011 10:48

i beleive in god. Its not a choice its like breathing, i just do.

its a strange thing, it just dousnt leave me. it constantly calls me back and reminds me. If i had no children i would devote my life to god, but sadly i do not have the hours i need or the time to fully relax and feel him.

I would definatly rather die and find he dousnt exist that not feel him in this life
