to not want to collect mail

on landlord's behalf?

I'm not even sure it is legal.

I live in a private rental, that was the landlord's old family home, the parents passed away so rather than selling it is let out.

However, they still have mail for the deceased being sent to the property (about 5 years after death) as well as occassionally mail for themselves.

I've said I would forward the mail on to them and they said no they would prefer to collect it, so I feel that they want to use this as an excuse to pop round and check on us.

They always send a call or text to see if any mail, never just rock up.

I'm not comfortable with the fact that mail from banks is still coming here in the deceased's name, and they want it I feel like maybe the bank hasn't been informed.

I would prefer to return to sender, or minimum do a redirect to their address.

Is it hurting to give it to them? No, so why worry. If you really are that pissed about it send it back to sender but don't tell them you have.

It does seem a bit iffy. Don't bank accounts have to be closed down or frozen for probate etc to go through? I would return to sender - write on the envelope that the recipient is deceased.

I'd send it back with 'addressee no longer at this address, deceased' marked on it.

I wouldn't be happy with my landlord coming over frequently, and certainly not without proper notice being given. If they're not a professional landlord they may well have no idea of their responsibilities and your rights. Informing the bank would be perfectly reasonable but may cause you hassle with the landlord. I wonder whether their parents are still getting state benefits/pension paid into the bank account?
