My first online supermarket shop has just arrived. I signed for the alternatives as they were ok. Then the deliver man just sterted dumping all the shopping, quite a bit of it unbagged, inside my front door. When I asked is he could take it to the kitchen for me he said it wasn't company policy to deliver past the front door. Is this normal?

I should say I'm 31 weeks pregnant, obviously so, and the whole reason I did it online was to save me having to lift heavy things.

I'm quite open to be told that this is the norm, but just felt a bit Hmm.

They don't usually take it inside but when I was very heavily PG the driver always offered.

WouldLikeToUnderstand · 11/02/2011 15:08

I guess it depends who you use. We use Ocado and they always offer to take it through to the kitchen (although I take it from them at the door despite the offer - but I am not 31 weeks pregnant!).

I've also never had an alternative/not in stock with Ocado since we've used them in the last year, everything we order arrives. The alternatives which we used to get with Sainsburys were quite often not that helpful/close which is the main reason we switched to begin with.

scurryfunge · 11/02/2011 15:11

Agree, stick with Ocado. They always ask about where I would like my shopping. (though I take it at the door). They text me the name of the delivery person a few hours before the delivery and are generally more customer focussed than Sainsburys and Tesco.

Takeresponsibility · 11/02/2011 15:11

I have used both Tesco and Sainsbury on line loads and have always been asked "where do you want it?"

I always assumed they meant the shopping.

LisMcA · 11/02/2011 15:19

Oh well! It was Asda BTW, they are nearest to us so thought would make sense to use them online too.

I just thought the "company policy" thing sounded like a line so he didn't have to carry it any further. I managed to lug my shopping to the kitchen anyway. Thanks

I might try somewhere else next time!

We use ocado and they always take the shopping through to the kitchen for us.

I think they are very good.

whatdoiknowanyway · 11/02/2011 15:21

Tesco and Sainsbury's both carry mine through.

cocoachannel · 11/02/2011 15:22

I've used Tesco, Sainsbury's and Ocado and they've all carried the shopping through to my kitchen at the back if my house.

Ocado the best customer service though. Always prompt, call if they are able to deliver a little early to check that's okay and by far the friendliest drivers!

compo · 11/02/2011 15:23

I like it just inside the door
means they're muddy boots don't tramp about my kitchen Grin

lindsell · 11/02/2011 15:36

I tried online shopping with tescos for the first time when I was about 34wks pg to make it easier for me and the man was so rude and unhelpful and refused to bring it past the front door or to wait to take the plastic boxes away that I gave up and now go to the shop.

maybe next time I'm pg I'll try ocado as they sound much nicer.

LisMcA · 11/02/2011 15:40

I'm not sure if Ocado deliver here (West Lothian) will look into it for next time!

I'm not surprised because of how expensive they are! Grin

scurryfunge · 11/02/2011 15:43

They are around the same price as Tesco, Starlight.

BeattieBow · 11/02/2011 15:44

Tesco and Sainsburys both carry the bags/boxes right through to my kitchen for me. I'm not pg.

StarlightPrincess · 11/02/2011 15:44

Yep, another supermarket that's too expensive for me! Not judging, I'd love to be able to afford to shop there....

Gleekfreak · 11/02/2011 15:47

:o at Take responsibility! Always have ocado, as never any probs, and all the joys of above-plus, they even delivered all through the snow/ice last year, when tesco's cancelled my sister's Xmas delivery, with her having no way of getting anything else Shock

whatsbutter · 11/02/2011 15:49

my last online shop with asda was £128 something, at ocado it was £179 odd, go through mysupermarket.com
it tells you which one is cheapest

and if you use sainsburys or tesco, you get 310 off your first shop

i use asda
its the cheapest, their drivers take my shopping into the kitchen for me

in my experience, tesco have the best drivers
asda are always late
and sainsburys give you £5 off your next shop if they are 1 minute late

whatsbutter · 11/02/2011 15:50

that should be £10, not 310 D'oh!

SardineQueen · 11/02/2011 15:54

I don;t think ocado are up there yet LisMcA

MorticiaAddams · 11/02/2011 15:57

Tesco have always asked me except for once which was my Christmas delivery. I didn't ask him to carry it in (didn't feel well so don't know why) but as it was unbagged I took it through to the kitchen bit by bit and made him wait to sign. Miserable bastard.

StarlightPrincess · 11/02/2011 15:58

To be honest though, I fecking hate doing my shopping online, as soon as DP passes his driving test I will be shopping around at my 3 favourite supermarkets. The luxury of choice!

LisMcA · 11/02/2011 16:00

Didn't think so! Ah well! I'm not moving just so I can get good customer service! John Lewis suspended deliveries to us over Christmas as we were deemed off the beaten track! I can see the Forth Rail Bridge from my garden!!!!
