Title says it all really...

First of all it was only on FB that I saw him named, and I pointed out how very wrong it is. But now I see that BBC news have named him too.

AIBU? Or does the public have a right to know?

scurryfunge he has not yet been charged, never mind released on bail, he is still being questioned? Are you talking about a different case?

In the land DM they do lead, Totem Grin but you need a certain mentality to believe it.

scurryfunge · 11/02/2011 12:43

allsquare...I was talking about the Bristol first arrest.

allsquareknickersnofurcoat · 11/02/2011 12:46

Ok -I am easily confused Grin

TotemPole · 11/02/2011 12:47

People do believe it, you can tell by the comments they leave.:(

I understand wanting to stop the witch hunts that go on in the media and on the Internet. But making it criminal to report or repeat a fact that is true is also a huge injustice and q danger in a democracy.

ambarth · 11/02/2011 12:53

YANBU. The way that innocent man in Bristol was demonised by the media was terrible.

allsquareknickersnofurcoat · 11/02/2011 12:57

As a side note, I have remembered the name of the guy I had a one night stand with and its not him :)

TotemPole · 11/02/2011 12:57

The wide use of the internet means these witch hunts build momentum at a much faster rate.

It's a lot different to 20+ years ago, when people would be gossiping and speculating in the pub, the corner shop or where ever.

Now, the discussions take place on a massive scale and it tends to snowball.

onimolap · 11/02/2011 14:29

I've just watched the SKY lunchtime news, and they did not include the name of the suspect in the current case.

I wish the (publicly-funded) BBC would work to the same standards as that (commercial) channel.

As a PS to this thread, Garl Whant has tonight been charged with the murder of Nikkita Grender and with child destruction (murder cannot apply to the unborn).
