to despise silly email "stationary" at work?

Why do people do it?

How on earth do you expect to be taken seriously in any kind of professional context, when you're sending emails with a pink background and pretendy joined up writing?

The job I do can sometimes involve highly sensitive and often deepy tragic information, yet some people still feel the need to have "cheery" email stationary.

It makes you like a pillock. Stop it.

Unreasonable or not?

YANBU - I hate it too!

FabbyChic · 09/02/2011 20:47

Its childish and unprofessional, emails for work purposes should be easy to read and plain.

gapbear · 09/02/2011 20:48

Not.

It's annoying, and makes me think people have got a leetle too much time on their hands...

GetOrfMoiLand · 09/02/2011 20:48

YANBU

I judge people as wankers if they use strange fonts etc.

Someone sent me an email with a smiley face on the end the other day. It is so unprofessional.

Blush ooo the irony!

Oh well I was in rant mode!

Well yes, it sits in my inbox not being processed for longer than it would if didn't look like a gypsy wedding dress!

I read the op as smelly e-mail. Must make that appointment at the opticians.

FudgeGirl · 09/02/2011 21:04

Should be banned. We have a corporate email sign off at work so everyone's should be the same.

Oh, and I used to piss myself when the person at work used to send a round robin email request for any "stationary" orders at work Grin

I hate it too. But I love reading autosignatures. Especially those with Comic Sans, creative job titles and all qualifications since the age of 5.

YANBU
too much time n their hands! All of our admin workers, including the office manager, have silly email affectations that change on a regular basis. One finds animated pictures for whatever she's emailing about. Hmm

I actually don't hink they have too much time on their hands, they work really hard. But it still looks silly.

notinmypocket · 09/02/2011 21:37

YANBU - I have some colleagues using 'pretty' background colours AND adding moving things/faces/animals, animations.

WipsGlitter · 09/02/2011 21:48

I have just started with a major organisation and am amazed that they don't have standard email signatures, so lots of plain text, swirly writing, odd fonts etc

v unprofessional

Lonnie · 09/02/2011 21:58

Cant help to wonder wher eyou all work as I havent ever seen this laughs

missalien · 09/02/2011 22:46

Oh dear I thought you were complaining about them just spelling it wrong!

twirlymum · 09/02/2011 23:15

The way I remember it is 'e' for envelope (stationery)

GloriaSmut · 09/02/2011 23:25

I've never known why anyone would want to send those fucking awful, all-singing, all-dancing, excuses for email that are silly stationery. It's bad enough that people use it for personal email but the very idea that a company would permit it astonishes me.

Fortunately, using a Mac means that it spits on stupid stationery since all my emails come in plain text format.
