to feel warm hearted towards the lad next door

A bright sunny day - the kids wanted to go in the garden this pm. I noticed yesterday morning that the fence had come loose on one side in the wind at the weekend - i was going to ring the landlord and ask him to fix it or ask who had responsibility to fix it as next door have a staff bull terrier and I am a little wary of them and young children. I don't really talk to the neighbours but know it is an older couple and their son who is maybe 20. We had been in the garden for 10 minutes and the son came out and started fixing the fence. I thanked him and explained about ringing the landlord but he just shrugged and said he didn't want the dog getting out and carried on. Just felt that he noticed the kids in the garden and that prompted him to fix it quickly - some young lads with dogs wouldn't have been so thoughtful and I am grateful to him. Maybe it was a coincidence and he was going to fix it before he saw us in the garden anyway!

There are some good 'uns about - lucky you to have one next door!

Nice to hear about a responsible dog owner :)

Amieesmum · 08/02/2011 17:36

Awww that's kind of nice :D not often you hear good things about "the youth" lol

TheButterflyCollector · 08/02/2011 17:48

He may have been prompted to fix the fence quickly because he's a little wary of children going near his Staffordshire Bull Terrier, not the other way round.

When we had all the horrible magical snow in December, my mum saw a group of young teenage boys helping to push cars up the hill near her house for a good hour. She was so touched she wrote a letter in to the local paper Grin It's lovely when you see that they aren't all knife weilding gobshites!

MoaningMedalllist · 08/02/2011 23:02

aw sweet

magicmummy1 · 08/02/2011 23:04

There are two teenage boys across the road from us. They are both friendly, polite and fantastically helpful - always helping out with little bits and pieces that need doing. If I were their mum, I would be proud as punch! Grin

I've been amazed when out and about with small children in buggies how often teenagers (especially boys) will stop to smile and play with them, hold doors open and assist with carrying buggies on and off public transport. This kindness even extends to picking up lost toys and chasing me half way down the street to return them. In general they just behave like really kind people.

This isn't limited to a few local children it is a general impression formed over several years.

I really wish I knew who their parents were so I could tell them about their lovely boy.

It must be really crap being a teenager today when the general expectation is that you will be a thug.

I thought this thread was going to be about the OP getting amorous with the next door neighbour. How disappointing.

WimpleOfTheBallet · 08/02/2011 23:50

I did to cockular! I was going to tell them off for using kind old granny language like "warm hearted" in relation to their perverted fancies!

FrottageCod · 08/02/2011 23:53

I expected lots of biccies
