To be sick of the bloody builders? (moan)

Hiya...moved into this flat last april and fell pregnant shortly afterwards. I know that building work happens and its just a part of life.

This is starting to take the piss though. Its the terraced houses on both sides being converted into flats. They both work well into the evening, one side was painting all day out front and completely blocked out our satelite reception (I know I could of gotten up and gone out but was very cold day, way 7 months pregnant and feeling shite).

The odd landlord waits outside harassing passers by, including me, my partner and friends who where helping us with our bins asking if they want to live in one of his (frankly, shoddy, small and overpriced) flats.

AND on a sunday morning at half 8 the builders ring the door asking if our car was parked outside and if so could we move it. The way I was feeling I bloody would not of moved it if it was ours (it was not). No apology from them.

Like I said this is a moan, but the building work doesn't seem to stick to reasonable times sometimes starting drilling at 6:30 am. Its all day, every day, on both sides. Just a few hours at the weekend of peace would be nice.

Thanks for listening to my rant Grin

KJnow how you feel - man on plot next door to us self-built his large house. Went on for nearly 3 years (although, give him his due, he didn't start until 9 a.m. on a Sunday)!!! You'lll never know how glad I was when he finally finished building it!

Contact environmental health as that time is unreasonable. If a proper conversion it should be 8am-6pm.

Call them for advice, if no joy call building control.

complain tothecouncil. there must be some noise and working restrictions

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 08/02/2011 12:59

Complain to the guy who is employing them, the builders are just trying to make a living.

Annpan88 · 08/02/2011 13:07

I know its not the builders fault or possibly really anyones. its just one of those things. Doesn't make it any less annoying though.

Hmmm, I'd check the noise restrictions with the local council. 6.30am starts for loud drilling are not on at all. My DP and dad work in trade doing similar things and would never start work that early in a residential area because it's bloody rude and because the council would come down like a ton of bricks.

Newmumlondon · 08/02/2011 13:30

Second speaking to council. I had to put up with building works going on during late preg and with newborn. Would just get dd to sleep again and settle in for morning nap myself when the drilling would start. One of reasons we're moving out of London! Last straw was building work on Sunday morn after being up all night with teething baby. They are not allowed to do it and you should complain to the council. We complained direct to the builders in the first instance and they claimed they lived there and were not builders while wearing the luminous jackets. Tossers!

MorticiaAddams · 08/02/2011 14:14

Check with the council about noise restrictions.

Did you go to any meetings about the planning permission as that's when you would usually put forward any restrictions you want.

MorticiaAddams · 08/02/2011 14:16

Sorry, that sounded very unsympathetic but was just meant to be practical.

I do sympathise with the constant noise and it would drive me mad too.

slipperandpjsmum · 08/02/2011 15:12

Would you have prefered the car to be accidentially damanged rather than them check if it was yours and move it.

8.30 is the middle of the day in our house with little ones!
