..to think that she can just put on a jumper?

I share a workspace (classroom) with a colleague, and at the moment it is around -8 outside, so I dress appropriately. As a result, I am wearing a jumper - suitable clothes. She, on the other hand still opts of short sleeves, sometimes even no sleeves inside. Of course this causes some heating problems. She comes in and turns on all the heaters (full blast), without asking, leaving me a sweaty mess. I would rather turn them all down (good for the environment too!) and keep my long sleeves. Grrrr! Angry AIBU?

Are your pupils too hot or cold?

O and you could take your jumper off...

On the fence on this one sorry Wink

You are if you haven't spoken to her about it!

You aren't if you have!

You need to communicate this to her and meet in the middle somewhere. Just because its -8, it doesn't mean you need to be bundled up indoors. I like a happy medium, I prefer long sleeves when its cold but I don't like to be smothered in huge jumpers as I feel I can't move somehow.

Speak to the head

SwearyMary · 07/02/2011 08:00

No, don't take it to the head unless you have spoken to her first, thats a very back stabby way to behave imo!

Communication is key, she most likely thinks you are chilly too.......you do have a jumper on so she might think thats a sign you are feeling cold. Speak to her.

MrsVidic · 07/02/2011 08:01

she should wear a jumper but she may be too cold still. I'm one of those artic people who is always freezing. I literally get goose bumps if the heating isn't on. Being to cold is awful

jimper · 07/02/2011 08:01

Feel like I should just say - I am not wearing a huge jumper! Just a cami and a thin cardi! I have spoken to her, but she still does it anyway. Also, am 6 months pregnant so hormonal.

When the kids are in the room whoever is teaching gets to decide but more often than not it is not in use.

She is being unreasonble. A too hot classroom is not a good environment for children trying to learn.

Pheebe · 07/02/2011 09:39

Ahhh you're pregnant, in that case your perception of a comfortable room temperature is probably way off the scale.

A room temp of 17-19 degrees is a decent working temp (for me anyway). In the UK there are guidelines as to appropriate temps for a working environment. I would use those as a guide before taking this any further.

hth and congratulations Grin
