The issue is so so so so tiring!

It seems to go in circles and everywhere I go, this issue turns up.

Enough.

So you'd rather promote censorship than click that lovely little link that says hide?

Nice.

penelopestitsdropped · 06/02/2011 16:00

They don't need to censor discussion and debate.

People who post on Mn just need to grow the fuck up and realise that just because what they have chosen may be right for their child and their circumstances, it may not be right for everyone else.

ramonaquimby · 06/02/2011 16:00

umm

don't read those threads?

ThierryHenryismyBoyfriend · 06/02/2011 16:01

YABU, why is this debate any worse than SAHM vs Working mums, FF vs BF?

If you don't like the thread just hide it.

Of course, I didnt mean 'banning' as in censorship! I am just expressing an extreme reaction

Its just that, sometimes a simple discussions turns out ot be a massive huha!

Just hide those threads as soon as they deviate from answering a genuine question from an OP into the same-old judgey thing.

CrosswordAddict · 06/02/2011 16:07

IT's a healthy sign that so many Mumsnetters are concerned about the grammar school/private/state school debate. These threads seem to have more posts than any other so you might be in a minority IMO.

SauvignonBlanche · 06/02/2011 16:11

YABVU, I don't think MN is about to start censorship.

UnquietDad · 06/02/2011 16:12

It's healthy to have the discussion, if only because it is important to keep making it clear that it is not just a simple "choice" like which variety of Corn Flakes to buy. Education is more than that.

However, I share your frustration, and would agree that to some extent the signal-to-noise ratio on this particular subject is just absurd. It's such a non-issue for the vast majority of people - at times you may as well be debating the merits of the best caviar.

YABU MN is a vital source of information and I have learned a lot from threads on that subject.

bibbitybobbityhat · 06/02/2011 16:21

Yabu - but I do wonder why so many people end up on Mumsnet asking about the merits of private school a. vs private school b. in c. area. There's hundreds of them! Aren't there better forums for that sort of thing out there?

sososofedup · 06/02/2011 16:25

It gets silly sometimes and sometimes the issue is so full of assumptions and generalistions. Then it gets personal and hust nasty.

A thread about homework will end up being about who gets the top jobs? I mean, why not stick to the issue being raised?

OP posts:
sososofedup · 06/02/2011 16:26

just nasty, i should say

OP posts:
bibbitybobbityhat · 06/02/2011 16:32

Its a huge issue which people feel very strongly about. People aren't going to stop arguing about it - best to hide the threads if you are getting upset by them.

reelingintheyears · 06/02/2011 16:33

Why not ban everything...
I mean,discussion is soooo boring.

If you don't like a topic then ignore it.

CrosswordAddict · 06/02/2011 16:35

Although it's a non-issue for lots of people (as quiet dad says) it's obviously dear to the hearts of some Mumsnetters. Why can't they discuss what they want to discuss? Isn't that the point of a public forum? Anyway, you can always hide threads if they upset you that much.

usualsuspect · 06/02/2011 16:36

I ignore them now ...The private school world is a million miles away from my life

reelingintheyears · 06/02/2011 16:39

I ignore loads of stuff that doesn't interest me/affect me or is just boring.(to me).

Just don't get into it.

usualsuspect · 06/02/2011 16:40

I mostly ignore them because they wind me up though Grin

reelingintheyears · 06/02/2011 16:43

No point in letting things wind you up...

Don't worry...be happy..Grin

reelingintheyears · 06/02/2011 16:43

Oh and Wine

Takeresponsibility · 06/02/2011 16:59

Lets ban all threads I don't like or find boring.

  1. Anything with bad grammar or misuse of apostrophes.
  1. Anything supporting Mothers who refuse estranged Fathers contact with their kids, and ones supporting Dads who won't pay child maintenance.
  1. Anything at all about mooncups.
  1. Anything by silly children who think once you are past 40 you should sit quietly in God's waiting room wearing sackcloth and ashes and be grateful for any crumb of attention any "young person" might throw your way.
  1. Anything that supports parents acting in a completely selfish way with the justification "happy Mummy/Daddy - Happy kids"
  1. Anything that says size 10-12 isn't that small.
  1. Anything else to which I am minded to take a dislike.
