to tell DD to sort her own bed linen out?

I am changing the beds (something of an epic job anyway in my current condition!) so I am just washing whats on the beds and putting it straight back on. The girls have all the same sets so they wont notice and ds only ever wants his toy story set so no problem there. I normally rotate it for even wear.

DD1 is 13 and has some very funky linen, in the same range but different designs. She asked if she could have her other set on instead and I said no because I cant get the old one out of the airing cupboard and the clean one back in. It cant wait til DH gets home as he doesnt finish til midnight tonight.

She has had a right sulk on so I said fine, she could have it on if she irons the old one and puts it away and gets the new one out and makes the bed herself. She has now had a massive strop because its "really hard" to iron the duvet cover. I KNOW!!! Thats why I am taking the ones I am washing straight out of the dryer and onto the beds so they dont need ironing! I have to iron bed stuff as they only just all fit into our tiny airing cupboard and dont fit at all unironed.

So i have given her a choice, thats NU right?!

No, I tumble dry it and it just dries the creases in! When I used to line dry them, they were crease-free. Now I have to slave over them with an iron for the best part of an hour to get them looking respectable!

She is well old enough to sort her own bed out and do her own ironing. You should be resting with a cup of tea (made by DD).

The only time I iron duvet covers is when I am in labour. Its how OH knows I have started. When he sees me get that kings size cover on the ironing board he goes pale.

So no more crease free duvet covers for me bit sad and feel teary emoticon>

Just to confirm THEY DONT FIT IN THE AIRING CUPBOARD UN IRONED!!!

I LOATHE ironing and never do it unless I have to, but unironed stuff wont all go in as the cupboard is teeny and we have bed linen for 6 beds and a cot plus spares etc! Especially ours and DDs as they are 100% cotton and crease like buggery regardless of being in the dryer!

She has just said that she will put the old stuff back on. I did ask why (whilst trying not to smirk!) and she said that she "wasnt that bothered....." about having the other set on.

CBA to iron the old one I think she means :o

I have to say this. You really dont have to iron those covers you know. I can bear the thought of you doing it.

If you get them straight out of the dryer or off the line and fold them right away they should fit fine.

thefirstMrsDeVere · 05/02/2011 15:54

YOu could sit on them first

Maybe I am dense, bur how dies ironing make them fit better? It makes them small to be increased?!?! Confused

Tee2072 · 05/02/2011 16:05

*does

Tee2072 · 05/02/2011 16:06

Wow, that made no sense! Let me try again.

How does not being creased make them smaller?

valiumredhead · 05/02/2011 16:07

Ironing makes them flatter and smaller when folded Tee........... apparently Grin Not that I'd know.........

jellybeans · 05/02/2011 16:14

My DDs are 11 and 13 and make their own beds, they have for ages. If they want a different set on, tough, they have to wait till next time. I give them the stuff and they make it. I never iron it though, ever. My boys are 8 and will be making their own beds too as well soon.

jellybeans · 05/02/2011 16:14

Should say 11 and 14

Bogeyface · 05/02/2011 16:16

It does make quite a difference in size when they are ironed. Believe me, I wouldnt do it at all if I had a nice large linen closet!

Oh lord, if she wants the other one then make her sort it out. She's 13 FGS. I did washing and ironing by that age and was capable of changing a bed

ChippingInSmellyCheeseFreak · 05/02/2011 17:22

I know if you are a 'non ironer' it doesn't sound 'right' but there is a huge difference in the way that linen fits into the airing cupboard if it has been ironed - it is much flatter and stacks a lot better... and looks/feels nice Grin

sharon2609 · 05/02/2011 17:40

I like bed linen straight off the dryer...haven't got a tumble dryer...because it smells nicer than when it's been stuffed in airing cuppboard.
