To wish grown ups wouldn't squish all my kids playdoh colours together?

Very petty I know.

I know that most playdoh will eventually be

a) eaten
b) squished into my upholstery
c) tucked away in a dark corner where it will become a fossilized lump that will clog my hoover hose. or
d) squished together until it becomes the colour of... poo usually.

I accept all that. And I know it's educational for the kids to blend different colours to make new ones, etc. My DCs were given a really great playdoh set for christmas with loads of tools and cutters and a dozen or so little pots of lovely vivid colours with glitter, etc. We've been having a great time making little murals and scenes, etc.

So the other day we had a few other toddlers over to play and got out the playdoh thinking they could play together without doing the "mine mine mine!" thing. It was nice. Each child had a colour and we were making a nice picture together.

And I realized that one of the other grown ups was playing with the tools as well and was squashing several of the different colours into... a big pile of poo colour.

I fully expect that other kids may not take care of my kids toys while they play, and I make sure that anything really precious is tucked out of the way when we have friends over.

But AIBU to be a bit annoyed that another grown up was essentially ruining one of my kids toys?

A parent did this during a "stay and play" session in my classroom. Made it even worse by beaming at me and declaring "oops! Oh well it all ends up brown in the end anyway!" The children are 3&4 and know better than to mix the playdough up.

Whatever combination of colours you mix together, it ends up poo colour, how does that happen?

ChippingInSmellyCheeseFreak · 05/02/2011 16:10

YANBU stupid moo! She should know better!

Next time I'd make a batch up that they can all do as they please with and save 'the good stuff' for when you only have children there who know better (than the parents!!).

Tanith · 05/02/2011 16:37

Can't you rescue it? Add some food colouring or something?

Even better, make up a batch yourself and you can replace it whenever you want. I think the home-made stuff is much nicer to use anyway.

Yanbu
Although I would suggest my DH was a bit too anal when he would insist on not mixing colours when playing with Lego. he and the kids would build amazing constructions with perfectly symmetrical colours Hmm

Am glad it is not just me who gets all OCD with playdoh!

I would gave said something to the adult....not sure what though!

mum295 · 05/02/2011 17:38

YANBU...I am the same and it drives me insane when DH makes multi-coloured extravaganzas with DD.

I have just chucked out a load of the manky old pots of it and bought some shiny new stuff. This batch will not be polluted!

I only put out colours that are nice when mixed together -- like just yellow, blue and green. Then it all becomes green, not poo-coloured.
