dds first school disco key stage 1 and only for an hour.

I sent her looking quite trendy, wearing black trousers, pretty shoes, white tshirt with florescent betty boop or some motife and a sparkly black cardigan.

she was picked up so I cant have a kite at what the other girls are going to be wearing.

Worried now i should have sent her in a pretty dress or something, more dressy? but she'll only be skidding along the floor with the boys Grin

so what do your girls wear?

That sounds a nice outfit, OP. I'm smiling at the 'skidding along the floor' comment... boys' trousers ought to be knee-lined in teflon I think. :)

tomhardyismydh · 04/02/2011 18:25

she is wearing boys trousers Grin, I have discovered atmospher at m&s for boys trousers as gitls trousers are too skinny and half her arse hangs out hips hang out.

whatever you do now, when she's a teenager, please let her choose. I had many a miserable fight with my mum because she could not understand that people wore jeans and more casual stuff and made me leave the house in nice outfits and shiny shoes with bows (thank god for my mate and her capacious bag that I stashed the other outfits in!)Anyway, for a little girl, I think your outfit sounds very nice and appropriate.

LadyOfTheManor · 04/02/2011 18:32

How old is key stage 1?

tomhardyismydh · 04/02/2011 18:34

my dd is almost 5 but think ks1 goes up to about 7ish

Ks1 has year 1 and year 2. Reception are part of foundation stage.

DD in reception wore a dress to Christmas disco. Girks' outfits ranged from bridesmaid style to shorts over tights. Year 2 girls mostly had strappy sandals with a small heel. Boys were mostly skidding round the floor on their knees as were many girls Smile

sazzlesb · 04/02/2011 18:44

I have 5 year old boy/girl twins and I think my DS gets more excited about wearing his "Mod" shirt and tie with pork pie hat to the school disco than my DD does her dress! The hat is very popular amongst his mates - gets passed around. DD tends to wear dresses to the disco but anything goes - the tomboys amongst her friends always wear trousers/hoodies - much more practical for "Street dancing"/floor skidding

tomhardyismydh · 04/02/2011 18:48

sounds very cute sazzle.

Aww, that's lovely :)

I don't think we had school discos at age 5 but I remember at age 11 dressing up in a similar sounding outfit - smart trousers (possibly jeans? Smarter than usual weekend wear anyway) and a white top which was from Tammy Girl or something (I thought that was really posh Grin). Definitely not a dress. This was about 10-12 years ago (that makes me sound young!)

TBH I doubt five year olds will care much about each others' dress sense, so don't worry :)

I hope she has a good time!

DD1 has a school disco on the 11th, she will be wearing black leggings and a tunic length bias-cut sleeveless top with sequins on - slinky, but not inapproptiate.

celticlassie · 04/02/2011 19:07

You should see them when they get to secondary. Acres of orangey flesh under teeny-tiny boob tube dresses that require to be yanked up from the top every thirty seconds or so. Enormous heels that they can't walk in and end up being carried (even when they are standing on the soaking wet pavement outside waiting to be picked up.) Lovely. Grin

Hassled · 04/02/2011 19:10

By the time they get to Yr 4 the girls look like they've just stepped out of New Look - lots of shimmery black leggings and sequins. And glitter on the face is a key look.

By Yr8 it's more a case of what they're not wearing - I found it all quite alarming in an old-fogey sort of way.

tomhardyismydh · 04/02/2011 19:11

I shudder at the thought celticlassie.

great name btw.

Agree with most, my DD is almost 6 and their parties range from the traditional party dress to modern skinny jeans and top, although there is always the label mother who sticks their DC in designer gear for the other mums to gawp at, little does she know that although we admire the outfit it is the most approriate to wear to skid around floors.

tomhardyismydh · 04/02/2011 19:13

she will be home soon, so will find out how she found it. Grin, im sure she had a fab time.

My DDs are 6 and 9 and would still want to be in party dresses!

tomhardyismydh · 04/02/2011 21:07

Shock maryz

she was happy when she came home, couldnt careless what others where wearing although she did say (only because I asked) they had party dresses on. she was more taken and full of woes about the girl in yr one whos tooth fell out.
