Can't go into too much detail because of it being a public forum.

An 'incident' happened at work (care home, resident made a complaint about someone being rude to her). There were three of us on that evening, one of them being me.

Wasn't me, but am still worried I'll be accused. Can they do anything with no evidence? I suffer from anxiety and this is really worrying me.

:(

Has the resident not stated which staff member was rude?

MoonGirl1981 · 04/02/2011 10:42

No. Just the time it happened.

I had something similar happen to me once. I wrote a detailed account of what happened so that I had it to refer back to if needed. I then went to see my manager and told her exactly what had happened from my point of view. She reassured me that it would be dealt with appropriately and I heard nothing further.

Don't worry, if it's investigated they'll speak to each person involved individually and in cofidence and ask what happened at the time.

Just tell them what you know, if you've done nothing wrong you've nothing to worry about.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 04/02/2011 10:46

Did the incident actually happen? Was there a witness? Is it possible that the complainant is confused? It sounds like a very small home if there were only three staff members on.
Good luck.

Calm down do not worry.

My wife was a supported hosuing officer for a scheme of old people.

It is common that if an old person has an issue about a particular person they sometimes make complaints (this is expected)
If there is a pattern of old person making lots of complaints then it will not be taken as serious but if it is lots of complaints about a certain person then it will be looked at in detail.

If this is just a ssmall complaint then the management will take it on board, speak to the person or all three and advice on best prectice. (if there is no proof)

If it is a serious allergation then it should be acted on ASAP.

But it is hard to advice without knowing full facts.

Pancakeflipper · 04/02/2011 10:47

The managers should follow up this complaint ( any complaint should be checked out for everyones sake). But that is for your protection too so don't worry.

Just be honest. If you are honest then it will be ok. Try to recall whereabouts/ what you were doing at that time.

The managers will look at this incident but they will look at the bigger issue - was it something that was taken out of context? Has there been complaints about the staff member before? Does the person complaining complain alot and is it with justification?

MrSpoc · 04/02/2011 10:50

good advice by daisy - make an accurate record of date, time location - witnesses and what you were doing. If it comes back to you, then you can rely on your notes.

ThePosieParker · 04/02/2011 10:52

Do you know what the accused did? TBH I think I would be more concerned that an elderly person felt the need to complain.

ThePosieParker · 04/02/2011 10:56

"If there is a pattern of old person making lots of complaints then it will not be taken as serious "

Am I the only one that finds this quite disgusting?

For a start 'old person' is just a 'person' you know and if someone complains a lot perhaps they have a lot to complain about.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 04/02/2011 11:46

Posie, you've clearly never worked in a care setting with elderly people.
some are real whiners with a great sense of entitlement. Obviously, not all.

manicbmc · 04/02/2011 11:48

And some may not have all their faculties, sadly.

Of course any complaint should be taken seriously.

MrSpoc · 04/02/2011 11:54

posie - it would be looked at in context.

some old people just complain for no reason at all and are habitual complainers

Your right old people are people, that is why the word Poeple was used, the old part was to highlight the age as belive it or not does play a major part in this.
