Dispicable Drug References on CBeebies Show

SeeNoBeebies · 03/02/2011 18:45

I know there has been a long culture of nudge nudge wink wink adult references in kids shows, but this is going WAY TOO FAR.

Just look at the "Spliff" mostion Zoomer makes to the Shop Keeper! Theyre not even disguising the reference well with the obvious "Cheese" = "Weed"

AIBU to lodge an official complaint? I've never made one before but I'm appauled that Liscence Fee Money is being spent on drug humour for kids.

manicbmc · 04/02/2011 07:49

Woke at 6.30 with cheddar withdrawal Grin

Deciduousblonde · 04/02/2011 07:50

Out of all this I am still wondering what a Surrey accent is... Grin

ambarth · 04/02/2011 08:09

Childrens tv is depraved. Thomas The Tank Engine is the worst. All those trains going into tunnels iyswim. I have banned my children from watching it in case it turns my son 'artistic' and my daughter into a teenage mum. Don't get me started on mickey mouse....

softglowsandmaybes · 04/02/2011 08:14

bugger me, its a good job they don't screen the magic roundabout then isn't it :-)

softglowsandmaybes · 04/02/2011 08:15

ambarth - exactly, the episode where henry was walled into the tunnel "im stiff im stiff said henry" its all too much!! and too early in the morining!!

softglowsandmaybes · 04/02/2011 08:17

I wonder, should we contact the Daily mail??

Longtalljosie · 04/02/2011 08:25

The Daily Mail will already know. I wouldn't be surprised if they employed people (a bit like the Shreddies grannies but meaner) to watch all BBC output for potential PC Gorn Maaddd

MrsdeVere: You any idea how many times some middle class white person has collared my OH at a party and asked him if he had any weed to sell them?

Good God, words fail me.

ImMandyFlyMe · 04/02/2011 08:51

i saw an episode of that granny murray one - the one like ballamory but in a city - where a character was said to be 'so excited' when he opened a yoghurt that it went all over another character. basically the camera shot made it look as though he'd spunked all over a woman's stomach. gobsmacked.

Deciduousblonde · 04/02/2011 08:59

That fella who had two ragdolls on his boat was a bit 'suspect'.

He is probably now in a psychiatric ward or doing time in Strangeways.

manicbmc · 04/02/2011 09:06

Don't diss Tootle! How I miss Rosie and Jim Grin

kreecherlivesupstairs · 04/02/2011 09:10

The shop on the corner of our road is willing to sell DD all sorts of cheese. Without an adult being present.
She is 9.9 Shock

ambarth · 04/02/2011 09:23

CBeebies is PC gone mad alright. Whatever next?
Milo impregnating Bella with his tweenie juice via a turkey baster so she can have a baby with Fizz !!!!

Longtalljosie · 04/02/2011 09:32

ambarth!

carminaburana · 04/02/2011 09:36

I'm pretty sure they've had a few complaints -,probably loads. I doubt there's many parents who want their 3 year old asking what a 'spliff' is

weblette · 04/02/2011 09:38

Er since there isn't any use of the word 'spliff' in the programme CB why would the children be asking?

stovies · 04/02/2011 09:42

I still laugh at how Bob the Builder always exclaimed, 'Bollards' when he dropped something or did something wrong. DH and I use to pee ourselves laughing.

Nettlerash · 04/02/2011 09:44

I dont think you ABU. I think some of us are more sensitive to these things than others for different reasons. Might be a joke to everyone else but kids pick up a hell of a lot more than we imagine.
My daughter has started copying some of the 'yogi' moves on waybuloo and I don't like it tbh. Others might laugh but I do understand your point.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 04/02/2011 09:53

oh FGS Nettle - if anyone has reason to be "sensitive to these things" - trust me = I'm pretty sure I fall into that category - in fact i'm certain I do.

Funnily enough Mr Tumble is on the TV right now - he's just done a sign almost identical to the one that's supposed to be have been used in the (now removed) clip.

Somehow - I think he was talking about food (as per the cheese in the Rastamouse) rather than weed

GeraldineAubergine · 04/02/2011 09:54

Listen, keep it quiet, iv got this new thing.....pickle. Really smooths out the cheese if you know what I mean. First jar is free.

carminaburana · 04/02/2011 10:02

Weblette; Rastafarians use marijuana as part of their religion - they smoke it for meditation purposes and believe it's use is sanctioned by bible references - So, if you have a programme about a Rasta mouse and he's seen making any reference to smoking, - surely parents would need to explain the religious connotation ?

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 04/02/2011 10:02

Well I don't know about the rest of you, but 'Big Cooh, Little Cook" makes me want to smoke crack.

Nettlerash · 04/02/2011 10:05

Baroque - everyone to their own opinion and that is mine. Trust me I fall into 'that category' too.

GeraldineAubergine · 04/02/2011 10:06

Hahaha me too coalition :)

kenobi · 04/02/2011 10:08

Nettlerash - aren't kids supposed to copy the yoji poses on Waybuloo? I thought the whole point of the programme was that it introduced yoga to children? Confused
