Girls clothing

I often read about sexualsation of young girls if they wear certain clothing, taking away their childhood their innocence. I have never understood this, I let my daughter wear what she likes.

She often goes out in her PJs so we are lower class. The other day I picked her up from dance class and went to a Burger king for a meal, she wore a crop top, heels and trousers and I over heard whispers of look how that girl is dressed, her heeled shoes, that top is a disgrace. Yesterday after school we we stopped off at Tescos rip off Express, DD had kicked off her shoes so did not bother putting them back on when going into the shop, I heard the someone's astonished voice saying that girl has no shoes on! Yet is going without shoes not supposed to be healthy? been reading a lot about barefoot running recently and it seems the in thing (Been trying barefoot running out recently).

My friends DD school uniforms says a skirt needs to be no more then 5cms above her knee. So why is 2 inches acceptable and not 4 for example. Then there are trousers and leggings, which are acceptable, are they not? Yet leggings are quite tight and even trousers that are not figure hugging are quite tight around the hip region showing it off . So why are trousers and especially leggings not sex clothing.

Not posting this to be controversial just find the attitudes not consistent. I wore what I wished as a child and looking back I do not see any harm done.

"She often goes out in her PJs so we are lower class."

Confused Eh?

bubblewrapped · 01/02/2011 13:14

Common sense should tell you that you dont allow your daughter to run around barefoot in an environment where there could be broken glass.

Sounds like common sense is lacking throughout the post though... so Biscuit

MrSpoc · 01/02/2011 13:15

i think it all depends on your DD age. I still pick my DN up if she wears make up or even hot pants. (she thinks i am joking but i am not).

monkeyflippers · 01/02/2011 13:16

Is this a weird joke?

A kid in high heels and a crop top is obviously not the same as a kid in leggings.

Are you thick? No seriously are you?

frgr · 01/02/2011 13:17

Also "Yet is going without shoes not supposed to be healthy?"

In January? Yes, very healthy... Hmm

yogididabooboo · 01/02/2011 13:18

you're wrong. class is irrelevant.

but you are a bit of a nob.

CarolinaRua · 01/02/2011 13:18

I think this post is a joke

MrSpoc · 01/02/2011 13:19

some of these posts are abit harsh. and i can see how tight leggings can been seen as sexual.

(I find my wife in tight leggings a turn on). but she does not see why i do.

But an eight your old in high heels and low cut top and i would think her parents were training her for prostitution. Sorry

pagwatch · 01/02/2011 13:20

I think it is meant to be a joke. Missed by really quite a long way though...

C0FFEE · 01/02/2011 13:23

I guess I must be thick

Loads of broken glass in Tescos

And figure hugging leggings are not sexy why?

WTF!! No shoes in the middle of winter??? Oh yes how bleeding sensible!!

So why was the crop top showing where was her jacket??? No shoes and no jacket in the middle of winter! That dosen't sound like protecting your child from the elements in the very least! Hmm

MrSpoc · 01/02/2011 13:29

Figure hugging leggings are sexy to ME because they show my wifes natural curves (which drive me wild).

I can understand your daughter wearing the heels and crop top to dance class if that is part of it but you said you let her wear anything she wants.

How old is she?

monkeyflippers · 01/02/2011 13:51

Leggins are usually worn under a long top or a dress.

queenofthecapitalwasteland · 01/02/2011 13:59

Hmmm, can see your point coffee there are inconsistencies with what is appropriate. I think leggings are nice on girls if they have log tops/ skirts, but not with short tops. But I hate seeing children in heels, it can affect the development of their feet and ankles.

I would be concerned by any child running around tesco barefoot, feet can easily be squashed by trollys Confused, also this time of year is a bit cold.

But also am a bit Hmm at a dance class that requires 8yo to be in heels and crop-top, surely that would be for the older/pole dancing classes?

MrSpoc · 01/02/2011 14:06

thats what my wife says monkeyflippers that they should be worn with a long top, that was after we saw a women walking down the street just in leggings, boots and a short top. She said she would never do that and i commented how i fancy her in hers.

Now to be fair the women was obviously coming back from the stables as she had ridding boots on, jodpors and riding coat.

Pixieonthemoor · 01/02/2011 14:23

By heels, do you mean character shoes (ie the ones that they wear for tap and modern which are a bit like Mary-Janes only with a heel of about 1 inch) or possibly the kind they wear on Strictly?? I can see nothing wrong in that - she had just been to a class. Crop tops, on the other hand, are frankly abysmal and shouldnt be seen on anyone and......you are kidding about the no-shoes in Tescos right? In January? Floors and pavements are hardly clean and there might well be something tiny and sharp around to give a nasty splinter.

C0FFEE · 01/02/2011 14:59

She does disco, heel is an inch, crop top is their uniform, would it be OK if it was a leotard?. Went to Paris for a competition in the summer and little girls were dressed in fishnets, little skirts and high heels doing the can can.

Now I was actually wondering if this was morally correct UK everyone would be ripping their hair out, now which country has the highest teen pregnancy rates in the developed world, which country has the highest or one if the drug abuse, alcohol abuse, crime rate? Maybe we are worrying about the wrong things?

OK so its January so?

Might be nasty splitters at home too or in the garden, beach, park.

Feet can easily be squashed by trolleys if she was wearing flip flops or saddles.

I think the fact that you took her to burger king for a meal proves that this thread is a wind up. lol...
