wasn't sure where to put this
At Christmas time I always buy clementines. Nice juicy and Christmassy. Never bother buying them normally. However since Christmas I have been buying them daily,I can eat 6 to 8 a day. That's just greedy I know Blush but the thing is I am CRAVING them and eat them with the peel. Almost like an apple.
am not pregnant (definitely not ) I dont know why I crave them. I am a bit worried if eating all that peel is doing any (small amount ) of harm. And its the texture of the peel against the clementine flesh that I crave . Its kinda crunchy.

Hubby thinks I'm weird, I THINK ITS WEIRD , but its almost an addiction now as I afraid to run out of them .

Anyone else had anything similar when NOT pregnant.

m a freak I'll get my coat Confused

Maybe you have some kind of mineral/vitamin defficiency?

slartybartfast · 31/01/2011 20:25

i am pretty sure you can eat the peel,

very strange behaviour,
what happens if you dont?

shakey1500 · 31/01/2011 20:25

Don't forget your scarf, it's cold out there...;)

Ermmm, not sure? Sure 100% you're not pregnant? Is your name Mary?!

bubblewrapped · 31/01/2011 20:25

I think it is turning into a bit of an obsession, and you certainly wont be getting constipated Grin

amistillsexy · 31/01/2011 20:26

Do you think you might have a vitamin deficiency? Sometimes our bodies crave strange things because they contain vitamins or minerals we lack. Could try taking a multivit daily and see if the craving goes away.

Make sure you wash the clementines well before eating as the skins may have been sprayed with insecticide/washed with wax if they aren't organic.

Oh, and don't worry about it. There are worse things you could be eating! Grin

fit2drop · 31/01/2011 20:31

Shakey not pregnant had hysterectomy.

sloggie I take vits and mineral supplements every day

slarty, I haven't NOT had a day since Christmas without them so I dont know, but I do make sure I have them in every day.The idea of not having them makes me worry (possibly the wrong word)

Bubble definately no problems in that department Grin

I don't think I am too worried about the food intake though the amount is OTT as much as the bizzarr-ness of it if you know what I mean.

I do wash them :)

I think you should go to your GP. Tell him you're not peeling very well.

Sorry :o

fit2drop · 31/01/2011 20:38

sounds a bit weird but after reading your post i had to hunt down our clementines and eat one (peeled it first tho)

thisisyesterday · 31/01/2011 20:41

what do you think marmalade is made of? and candied peel?

lol

eating it will do no harm at all. you ARE weird... but I am sure you're fine :)

try taking a vit c supplement or something and see if the craving lessens...

GreenEyesandHam · 31/01/2011 20:42

And yes I am slapping myself silly for the blatent sexism in post- presuming the GP is a man (just remembered from a very old joke is all) :o

GMajor7 · 31/01/2011 20:42

They're taking the pith fit2drop Grin

GreenEyesandHam · 31/01/2011 20:43

hey it's good for you... who'd have thought it??

StealthPolarBear · 31/01/2011 20:46

urgh
I love clementines, but can't bear the thought of eating the skin
That said it's not doing any harm, it's still food - just not food normal people choose to eat

tinybeans · 31/01/2011 20:48

I'm also addicted to clementines. I've being eating about 8-12 a day ever since I got pregenent - baby is now 15 weeks old. I don't eat the skin, although, now you mention it, it does sound appeeling! Wink

My DH is trying to wean me off them - down to about 4 a day on a good day. Maybe we should start a support group! Grin

fit2drop · 31/01/2011 20:48

thisisyesterday I do take vitamin c.
AND strangely enough I HATE marmalade.

Im happy to be weird, just wish it could be about something more exotic than fruit peelBlush

KenDoddsDadsDog · 31/01/2011 20:52

I had a mad clementine craving when I was pregnant!
Maybe it's pica meaning you are deficient in some mineral.

GMajor7 · 31/01/2011 20:53

Have you tried kumquats? Your DH could feed them to you like grapes Smile

Now that^^ is amazing.

I have for the last few months been tested and various xrays MRI etc for a SERIOUSLY painful hip problem which is not a bone problem . I cannot take anti-inflamotory painkillers like ibuprofen as I am asthmatic. I wonder if my body was telling me to ease the pain naturally.

NOW THATS BLOODY BIZARRE

Now I fancy a clementine!!! Went out to kitchen to get one and ours have gone mouldy!!!! Now I'm going to be thinking about having one all evening.

Maybe One born every minute will take my mind off!!

WimpleOfTheBallet · 31/01/2011 21:01

Pica.

That's what it is. A desire to eat non-foods...get your iron levels tested.

InPraiseOfBacchus · 31/01/2011 21:02

Hey there! Sorry to ruin it for anyone, but there is no link between "cravings" and deficiencies (I read the study, quite interesting actually) unless you're actually dangerously ill (and you're definitely not!)

It's pretty difficult to overdose when you're eating actual food, and nothing in citrus fruits has cumulative toxicity, so munch away!

I munch the peel when nobody's looking. I find the smaller the citrus fruit, the nicer it is. (Oh, cumquats, yum.) Just give it a rinse first!

fit2drop · 31/01/2011 21:04

I take vitamins and mineral supplements. I take iron and vit c .

maybe Im just a greedy git! :(
